Continuous Computing Acquires Embedded Products Firm
San Diego-based Continuous Computing said Thursday that it has acquired Embedded Solution Partners, a provider of embedded products and services. Continuous Computing said that it has acquired substantially all of the assets of Embedded Solutions, including a team of key personnel from the company. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Embedded Solution Partners is based in San Mateo, California. Total Beauty Media Hires VP
Santa Monica-based Total Beauty Media, an online operator of TotalBeauty.com, an online web site focused on creating content for the beauty market, has hired on a new Vice President, the firm told socalTECH today. Total Beauty said that it has hired on Judy Hsieh as Vice President of Online Business Development. Hsieh was most recently at Yahoo's Media Division, and has also previously served at VP Business Development at BusinessWeek Digital. Somaxon Pharmaceuticals Appoints CEO
San Diego-based Somaxon Pharmaceuticals said today that it has appointed Richard W. Pascoe as the firm's President and CEO. Pascoe will also serve as a director of the company. Pascoe was most recently at ARAID Pharmaceuticals, where he was Senior Vice President and COO; he has also served at King Pharmaceuticals, Medco Research, COR Therapeutics, B. Braun Interventional, and The BOC Group. Pascoe succeeds David F. Hale, who has been serving as interim CEO; Hale remains as chairman.

Xirrus Gets Win At University
Thousand Oaks-based Xirrus, which develops Wi-Fi switching hardware, said this week that its products have been selected by Chapman University, in Orange County. According to Xirrus, Chapman will use the firm's workgroup switches for campus-wide deployment. Xirrus said that Chapman chose the firm because its solution is the only one capable of solving the school's user density and bandwith issues. Financial impact of the deal was not disclosed. Space Firm Expands In Southern California
Orbital, a Virginia-based manufacturer of small rockets and space systems for commercial, military and civil government customers, said this week that the firm is opening a new engineering and technology center in Los Angeles. The firm said that the new center is expected to initially employ 30 to 40 engineers, and will support the firm's Taurus II space launch vehicle and the company's missile defense efforts. AudioMicro Adds New Licensing Options
Los Angeles-based AudioMicro.com, which operates a marketplace for royalty-free stock music and sound effects, is announcing today that it has added new subscription packages and multi-lingual functionality to the site. According to AudioMicro, it will now offer one month, three month, and one year subscriptions to the service.
