Broadcom Gets Patent Win Against SiRF
Irvine-based Broadcom said Monday that the U.S. International Trade Commission has ruled that SiRF Technology Holdings has infringed on six of the firm's GPS patents. According to Broadcom, the patents--held by subsidiary Global Locate--relate to improviding global positions system processing and sensitivity. Broadcom has a number of other patent lawsuits against SiRF, a competing maker of multimedia processors and GPS receivers. Magnify360 Raises $2.5M
Los Angeles-based Magnify360 has raised $2.5M in a venture funding round, the firm told socalTECH today. The funding came from MHS Capital and angel investors. Magnify360 has developed a software-as-a-service platform which personalizes content and web sites to individuals; the firm's platform takes and optimizes that content based on individual behavior. Conexant Completes Broadband Media Sale
Newport Beach-based Conexant Systems announced today that it has completed the sale of the firm's Broadband Media Processing product lines to NXP Semiconductors. Conexant said it will get $110M in cash and up to $35M in earn-out from the sale of the product lines. The deal was originally announced in April, and includes the move of approximately 700 Conexant employees to NXP Semiconductors. Knowledge Adventure Gets $5M Funding Round
Torrance-based Knowledge Adventure, a developer of educational software and online virtual worlds for children, said today that it has raised an additional round of funding worth $5M. The funding came from its existing investors, Azure Capital and TeleSoft Partners. According to Knowledge Adventure, the funding will go to support its shift of focus from educational software to an adventure-based, 3D virtual world for kids. Gorilla Nation Signs Hallmark
Los Angeles-based online advertising rep firm Gorilla Nation announced today that the firm has been selected to represent the online advertising inventory for, Hallmark's online E-Card web site. According to Gorilla Nation, the site has 3.4 million unique monthly visitors. offers electronic greeting cards and other related services. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

DivX, Broadcom Certify HDTV Chip
San Diego-based DivX and Irvine-based Broadcom have certified a Broadcom HDTV chip for DivX support, DivX said today. According to DivX, Broadcom's BCM7405 system-on-a-chip has been certified for HD DivX support. The Broadcom chip is used by satellite, cable, and set-top box manufacturers to develop their hardware. DivX said the certification means that the Broadcom chip can support playback of HDTV content encoded in DivX 1080p format.

X1 Bolsters Microsoft Support
Pasadena-based X1 Technologies, which develops enterprise search software, said Monday that it has added support for Microsoft's SharePoint 2007 portal software. According to X1, the firm's upgraded software includes a component which will connect its X1 Enterprise Server to SharePoint 2007, and a more limited connector for the firm's X1 Professional Client.
