Nirvanix In OEM Software Deal
San Diego-based Nirvanix reported Tuesday that the firm has inked a deal to provide its online storage service to Silicon Mountain Holdings, a provider of branded computer products According to Nirvanix, Silicon Mountain is using its product to power a web-based digital locker service, myStorango. Silicon Mountain's service will provide small and medium businesses and consumers with Internet-based data protection. Disney Backs Software Research Labs
Los Angeles-based Disney has launched an effort to back two computer science and technology labs, as part of an effort to get top technology universities to conduct research and development for the company. According to Disney, it has launched global research and development labs with Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh and Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich. Megapath Acquires IP Merchant Solutions
Costa Mesa-based MegaPath announced Tuesday that the firm has acquired IP Merchant Solutions, a provider of MPLS VPN services for connecting to credit card processors. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. MegaPath, which provides managed IP and voice services, said the move will give its merchants a way to access credit card processors through its infrastructure. Edgeware Analytics Gets Angel Funding
San Diego-based Edgeware Analytics has scored a round of angel financing from the Tech Coast Angels, the firm disclosed this morning. Amount of the funding as not disclosed. Edgeware Analytics develops analytics tools used by lenders to improve underwriting procedures. Red Mango Scoops Up $12M
Los Angeles-based Red Mango, a frozen yogurt franchise, said today that the firm has raised $12M in a Series A investment. The round was led by John Antioco, former chairman and CEO of Blockbuster, along with private equity firm CIC Partners. Red Mango said the funding will go towards further development of its brands, and for bolstering its management team. Siimpel Scores Design Win
Arcadia-based Siimpel Corporation, a provider of MEMs-based, optical microsystems, has scored a design win in a Motorola handset. According to Siimpel, Motorola is uses its MEMs-based, continuous autofocus camera within a cellular handset, the MING A1600. Financial impact of the deal was not disclosed, however Siimpel said the handset is the first to integrate its autofocus camera technology. Ceradyne Completes SemEquip Buy
Costa Mesa-based Ceradyne announced this morning that it has completed its acquisition of SemEquip, inc. The deal was worth $25M in cash, plus up to $100M in earn out dependent on SemEquip revenues. SemEquip is a developer of cluster ion implantation equipment, used for the semiconductor industry in the manufacturing of logic and memory chips. RF Nano Gets $8M
Newport Beach-based RF Nano is announcing today that it has raised $8M in a Series B funding. The firm, which develops carbon nanotubes for the analog electronics market, said the funding was led by Oxantium Ventures. Prior investor Okapi ventures also participated in the round. RoyaltyShare Scores Funding From William Morris Agency
San Diego-based RoyaltyShare, which develops technology used by record labels to manage digital music royalties, said today that it has scored an investment from the William Morris Agency. Amount of the investment was not disclosed. RoyaltyShare said that the funding came as an extension of the firm's Series B financing round, which was led by Trident Capital and Bertelsmann Digital Media Investments (BDMI). Strix Expands Products
Calabasas-based Strix Systems has expanded its line of products, saying Monday that it has added a new product aimed at wireless hot spots. The firm said its new Strix Integrated Hot-Spot Systems provides 802.11a/g wireless access. The firm said the system connects into its Strix Access/One outdoor wireless backhaul systems. The new system is targeted at providing wireless access to mobile home parks, marinas, camp grounds, and other broadband access areas.

ESET Gets 400,000 Seat Antivirus Renewal
San Diego-based ESET, a developer of antivirus and threat protection software, reported Monday morning that the firm has scored a renewal of a 400,000 license deal for its product. Financial size of that deal was not disclosed. According to ESET, The Ontario Ministry of Education has selected the firm's ESET NOD32 Antivirus software for its network, in a renewal of a license. The deal covers French and English schools in Ontario, Canada.
