Ceres Gets Feedstock Win In Georgia
Thousand Oaks-based biotechnology firm Ceres, Inc. has scored a win for the firm's technology in a field trial in Soperton, Georgia, the firm said Tuesday. The company, whose seeds and crops are targeted for use in cellolosic biofuels, said that it will trial improved switchgrass cultivars and high-biomass sorghum hybrids with ethanol plant operator Range Fuels. Fisker Automotive Pulls In $65M More For Electric Car
Irvine-based Fisker Automotive, which is developing hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles, said Tuesday that it has scored $65M in a Series C funding round. According to Fisker, the funding completed on September 4th, and was led by an affiliate of the Qatar Investment Authority. Palo Alto Investors and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers also participated in the funding. Fisker said the funding will go towards development of the company's Fisker Karma, its first production car. Intercasting Gets Wins With AT&T, Verizon
San Diego-based Intercasting Corporation, a provider of mobile social networking software, has major wins with AT&T and Verizon. Intercasting--which develops a mobile application for accessing social networking web sites and blogs--is powering a new downloadable application called "My Communities" at AT&T, and a new application called SocialLife from Verizon. Spot Runner Loses High Profile VP, Hires Two
Los Angeles-based online advertising startup Spot Runner has lost a high profile vice president, Joanne Bradford, to Yahoo!, just months after announcing Bradford's hire as the firm's Executive Vice President of National Marketing Services. According to Yahoo!, it hired away Bradford from Spot Runner to head up the firm's U.S. Revenue and Market Development efforts. Green Sherpa Unveils Personal Finance Service
Santa Barbara-based Green Sherpa has unveiled a new, personal finance service, aimed at helping users mange their cash flow. According to the firm, its new service allows users to manage their finances, and includes features such as dynamic budgeting, goal setting and collaboration tools. Xirrus Revs Products, Sees Growth
Thousand Oaks-based Wi-Fi switch maker Xirrus said today that it has expanded its line of wireless products, and also moved its headquarters, in what it says is a result of "significant growth" at the firm. Xirrus has rolled out two new Wi-Fi arrays at the firm, including both a 12- radio and 24-radio Wi-Fi array, which the firm said are an expansion to its line, and will allow companies to use Wi-Fi as a replacement for switched Ethernet to the desktop. Arkeia Rolls Replication Software
San Diego-based storage backup software provider Arkeia Software said today that the firm has added a new replication product to its lineup. Arkeia announced Backup Replication, a new product it says can replicate backup data to one or more locations. Replication is a common feature of backup software and storage arrays, used to copy data between remote locations. Newport Media Unveils SoC For Mobile TV
Lake Forest-based Newport Media, a semiconductor firm serving the mobile broadcast media market, has added a new System-on-a-Chip for ISDB-T, a version of Japan's Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting-Terrestrial standard. According to Newport Media, its 65nm CMOS single-chip product include all of the components necessary for the standard, which is being used in Japan to convert both television stations and radio stations to digital broadcasts. Gorilla Nation Adds African American Sites
Los Angeles-based online ad representation firm Gorilla Nation announced this morning that the firm has been selected to exclusively represent six African-American web properties. According to the company, it is now representing BlackNews.com, BlackInAmerica.com, BlackHistory.com, BlackWomenConnect.com, BlackStudents.com, and HireDiversity.com. Financial impact of the deal was not disclosed. The sites will be represented through Gorilla Nation's GNMulticultural division.
