NanoH2O Lands $15M More
Los Angeles-based NanoH2O is reporting that it has secured $15M in additional funding, for the firm's water desalination technology. According to the firm, the round came from Oak Investment Partners and Khosla Ventures. Brian Hinman of Oak has joined the firm's board of directors as part of the funding. NanoH2O is developing reverse osmosis membranes based on technology from UCLA, and is applying that technology for water desalination. AP Reports Mobile Traffic
The Associated Press has reported traffic information for the firm's mobile service, the AP Mobile News Network, saying that it received more than 16 million page view for the month of August, with 948 news organizations providing content to the mobile offering. The service--which is being powered by Encinitas-based Verve Wireless--is the AP's attempt to establish a beachhead in the mobile market, and to establish new outlet for news and information from the AP's newspaper members. Hollywood Interactive Gets $5M
Hollywood Interactive Group, which develops an online web site for celebrity and entertainment news, said Thursday that it has raised $5M in a Series A funding round. The round came from BlueRun Ventures. According to Hollywood Interactive, the funding will go to develop its content initiatives, including MyHollywood.com, a web site for women focused on celebrity and entertainment news, fashion, casual games, and community. NextWave Wireless Gets $100M In Debt, Cuts Staff, Hires Banker
San Diego-based wireless broadband technology firm NextWave Wireless said today that it has scored a new, $100M debt financing for the firm's business, and made cuts in its staff, along with hiring an investment banker. The company said the restructuring included a reduction in workforce by over 20 percent. eSolar Hires VP Engineering
Pasadena-based eSolar, the Google-backed thermal solar energy startup, is announcing today that it has hired on a new Vice President of Engineering, Craig Tyner, Ph.D. According to eSolar, Tyner joins the firm from Sandia National Laboratories, where he spent more than 30 years.
