Autobytel Cuts 35 Percent Of Staff, Looks For Buyer
Irvine-based Autobytel said Friday morning that the firm has cut 75 positions, or approximately 35% of its workforce, and hired an investment bank to "review strategic alternatives" for the firm. Autobytel said it has hired RBC Capital Markets to explore "strategic alternatives" at the firm, which usually indicates that a company is looking for a buyer. Autobytel blamed the move on a challenging economy, saying that it expects the firm will be a leaner, more focused company "right-sized" to comp (More info...)

Interview with DialPlus
We recently ran into Dialplus (www.dialplus.net), a company which is developing mobile applications which pull up social networking profiles from Facebook or other sites when you make a phone call to a friend. The company's mobile applications use the phone number you are dialing to pull up information about the person you are talking to, displaying their profile or social networking information on your cell phone. Websense Scores Win In St. Louis
San Diego-based Websense said this week that the firm's products have been selected by the Metro St. Louis, the public transporation system operator for the St. Louis region. Financial impact of the win was not disclosed. Websense said that Metro St. Louis will use the firm's email security systems and web security products. According to Websense, Metro St. Louis is replacing an install of a McAfee security appliance and SurfControl web filtering. Metro St. Louis manages light rail, bus, and van (More info...)
