Pragmatic Solutions Upgrades Game Software
Westlake Village-based Pragmatic Solutions, which develops the back end infrastructure for the U.S. Army's "America's Army" video game, said Thursday that the firm has rolled out a new software distribution system. Activision Appoints Chief Creative Officer
Santa Monica-based Activision Publishing said this morning that it has appointed Brad Jakeman as the firm's Chief Creative Officer. Jakeman joins the video game publisher from Macy's, where he was EVP of Corporate Marketing. According to Activision, Jakeman will lead global advertising, media, marketing, and consumer research for all of its franchises. Jakeman has also served at Citigroup, BBDO, and Ogilvy.

EdgeCast Signs YesMail
Los Angeles-based EdgeCast, a provider of content delivery network (CDN) services, has signed on email marketing firm YesMail as a customer, YesMail disclosed earlier this week. YesMail said it has partnered with EdgeCast to provide faster downloads of images within emails sent by the firm, as well as faster downloading of hosted content. Quest Software Promotes Garn to CEO
Quest Software Inc., a publisher of enterprise systems management applications, reported Thursday that its board of directors has promoted Doug Garn to chief executive officer. Garn, the Aliso Viejo, Calif.-based company said, also joins the board as a director and will retain his preexisting role as president. Garn joined Quest in 1998 and has served as president since February 2005. Before that, the company noted, he was vice president of worldwide sales. Cornerstone OnDemand Signs Engineering Firm
Santa Monica-based Cornerstone OnDemand, which develops software-as-a-service for talent and employee management, said this week that it has signed on Barry-Wehmiller Companies, a capital equipment provider and engineering consulting services firm. According to Cornerstone OnDemand, Barry-Wehmiller will use its products to help foster growth and development of the company's workforce. Financial impact of the win was not disclosed. CoreValve Expands Board
CoreValve Inc., a designer and manufacturer of artificial replacement components for the human heart, reported earlier this week that it has appointed Frank Fischer to its board of directors. The Irvine, Calif.-based company described Fischer as a 25-year veteran of the medical device industry who has sat on NeuroPace's board of directors since 1998 and served as that company's chief executive officer since January 2000.
