Victor Tsao Invests In Israeli Semi Firm
Victor Tsao, who founded and sold Orange County-based Linksys to Cisco for approximately $500M in 2003, has made an investment in a Israeli semiconductor firm developing chips for multimedia WiFi home networking. According to Celeno Communications, Tsao has invested in the firm and has joined the company's advisory board. Financial terms of the investment were not disclosed. Velocity Interactive Group Adds Partner
Los Angeles-based Velocity Interactive Group, the venture capital firm led by Ross Levinsohn and Jon Miller, said this morning that it has added Mickie Rosen as an investment partner at the company. According to Velocity, Rosen will focus on video, music, social media, publishing, games, and online advertising at the firm. CODA Genomics Becomes Verdezyne
Laguna Hills-based CODA Genomics, which is developing technology for engineering proteins, metabolic pathways and microorganisms for the life sciences, chemical, and biofuels market, said Tuesday that it is renaming itself Verdezyne, Inc. ConfirmNet Acquired By EBIX
San Diego-based ConfirmNet, a provider of software-as-a-service for issuing certificates of insurance, has been acquired by Atlanta-based EBIX, EBIX said Monday. According to EBIX, the deal is worth between $10M and $11M, and is made up of cash and earnout. Both ConfirmNet and EBIX serve firms like AON, Marsh, Wachovia Insurance Services, Hewitt Associates, Kroger, Centex Homes, and others.

The Active Network Buys Three Firms
San Diego-based The Active Network, which operates a network of sports- and other online registration services and marketing web sites, said today that it has acquired three companies which provide hunting and fishing licensing technology. SodaHead.com Trumpets User Wins
Los Angeles-based online social question and answer site Sodahead.com said today that the firm has reached more than 1 million registered users at the site. Sodahead.com, which operates a web site where users can ask and answer questions, share opinions, and network with other users, said that it has now recorded more than 5 million votes and 8 million comments on the site. Specific Media Launches New Ad Targeting Platform
Irvine-based Specific Media said this morning that it has launched a new ad platform, which it says will simplify management and delivery of advertising. According to Specific Media, its new Dynamic Display product allows advertisers to control and customize up to three areas in an ad template, specifically targeted to a user and user profile. Accelrys Inks Deal With Becton-Dickinson
San Diego-based Accelrys, a developer of software for the scientific market, announced today that the firm has inked a deal with Becton Dickinson to include its products in a Becton Dickinson offering. DataDirect Networks Get Win At LLNL
Chatsworth-based data storage provider DataDirect Networks is reporting this morning that the firm's products have been selected by Lawrence Livermore National Labs (LLNL) for a supercomputer storage installation.
