BioIQ Gets Win At Alere
Santa Barbara-based BioIQ, a provider of web-based, consumer health testing services, said last week that it has inked a deal to provide its services to Alere, a provider of health and wellness serviecs. According to BioIQ, the firms will work together to supply the firm's home-test kits and online reporting tools as part of Alere's offerings. Financial impact of the deal was not disclosed. Emulex Hires Marketing Head
Costa Mesa-based storage switching equipment maker Emulex announced Monday that it has appointed Steve Daheb as Chief Marketing Officer. The firm, which makes host bus adapters and other equipment for the storage market, said that Daheb joins the firm from storage maker BlueArc. Daheb has also served at Tasman Networks, Brocade and Lucent/Ascend. The firm said that Daheb will report to Emulex COO Jeff Benck.

Guidance Software Signs SEC
Pasadena-based Guidance Software, which makes software used for digital forensics, has signed on the Securies and Exchange Comission (SEC) for a renewal, the firm announced Monday. Guidance said that the SEC is using the firm's EnCase Enterprise and Encase Forensic software. Both software packages are used for searching and indexing digital information on computers and file servers, without affecting the contents of those servers. Broadcom Integrates AMD Digital TV Operations
Irvine-based Broadcom said today that the firm has integrated AMD's Digital Television business into its operations, the result of the firm's October acquisition. According to Broadcom, it will be demonstrating a number of combined technology as CES in January, based on technology from the acquisition. Strix Systems Gets Strategic Investment, Opens Indian R&D Center
Calabasas-based wireless networking hardware provider Strix Systems said today that the firm has received an "inflow" of strategic investments from investors, and also opened up a R&D center in India. Amount of the investment, and names of the strategic investors was not disclosed. Cohu Buys Semiconductor Firm
Poway-based Cohu, Inc. said today that the firm's Delta Design subsidiary has agreed to acquire Rasco GmbH, a developer of semiconductor test equipment based in Munich, Germany. According to Cohu, it will pay $80M to Dover Corporation for Rasco, which designs and manufactures gravity-feed and strip semiconductor test handlers, used for final test operations by semiconductor manufacturers. RightScale Lands $13M
Santa Barbara-based RightScale said today that it has raised $13M, in a second round for the cloud computing software firm. According to RightScale, the round was led by Index Ventures, and also included prior investor Benchmark Capital. Danny Rimer of Index joins the board as part of the funding. RightScale is developing a cloud computing software platform based on Amazon's web services; the firm's product allows users to manage and deploy servers. Brickfish Gets Win With Microsoft
San Diego-based online advertising network Brickfish said today that the firm has teamed up with Microsoft on a social media effort for Microsoft's "I'm a PC" campaign. According to Brickfish, the firm will power a social media ad effort which will allow people to submit videos and photos to the "I'm a PC" campaign. Financial impact of the deal was not disclosed. Brickfish offers social media advertising tools focused on user-generated content.
