Ablation Frontiers Acquisition Completes
Medtronic said Friday that its $225M acquisition of Carlsbad-based Ablation Frontiers has completed. Medtronic said that it would acquire Ablation Frontiers in January, for $225M plus potential additional milestone payments. Ablation Frontiers will become part of Medtronic's Cardiac Rhythm Disease Management business. SynergEyes Sees $13.3M
Carlsbad-based SynergEyes, a developer of hybrid contact lenses, announced Friday that the firm has raised $13.3M in a Series C funding round. SynergEyes said that the round was led by De Novo Ventures, and also included Bio-Star Private Equity Fund along with prior investors Alloy Ventures, Delphi Ventures, InnoCal Venture Capital and Windward Ventures. SynergEyes is developing a new contact lens which is expected to provide clearer vision in a soft lens.

Geni Enhances Privacy Controls
Los Angeles-based Geni, an online genealogy and social networking site, has tightened up the firm's privacy settings, saying last night that it has added new settings which allows users to restrict viewing of profiles of kids younger than 13, and changed the firm's "family groups" defaults to a smaller set of relatives. Broadcom Opens Drivers For Android Development
Irvine-based Broadcom said Thursday that it is opening up the source code for the firm's BCM4325 chip drivers, to allow developers to support Google's Android operating system. According to Broadcom, the software which controls its combo chip is now a standard component of the latest Android operating system. Broadcom's chip supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and FM wireless communications. Broadcom is a member of the Open Handset Alliance, which develops the Android mobile phone software.
