Siimpel Scores Investment From Korean Firm
Arcadia-based Siimpel Corporation, which is developing MEMs-based components for mobile cameras, announced Monday afternoon that the firm has raised an additional round of investment from LG Innotek. Financial terms of the investment were not disclosed. Siimpel develops MEMs modules which are used to design higher quality, mobile phone cameras. Comcast Interactive Snags VP From Glam
Comcast Interactive Media announced Monday that it has appointed Scott Schiller as the new Senior Vice President of Advertising Sales, heading up sales for the firm's Fandango, Fancast, Movies.com and Plaxo units. Fandango, Movies.com, and Fancast are all based in Los Angeles. Schiller joins Comcast from Glam Media, the online women's media property, where he was EVP Global Marketing. Tsavo Launches Twitter Search Engine
Santa Monica-based Tsavo, the online media firm run by former Userplane founder Michael Jones, said Monday that it has officially launched a new web site focused on searching the popular Twitter micro-blogging service. The new service, Twithority, allows users to search for Twitter messages, shown in order of highest ranking users and time. EQAL In Deal With Creator of 'CSI'
Los Angeles-based EQAL said this morning that it has signed up 'CSI' franchise creator Anthony E. Zuiker on a new multimedia project. According to EQAL, which was behind the lonelygirl15 and KateModern web series, Zuiker and the firm will create a "digi-novel" which will turn traditional book reading into a "multimedia experience." Emergent Game Technologies Launches New Software
Calabasas-based Emergent Game Technologies, the software developer behind the popular Gamebryo game engine, said today that it has launched a new product focused on rapid prototyping and development of game titles. According to the firm, its new title--Gamebryo Lightspeed--will allow developers to create games on any console or PC platform. Noritsu America Acquires Lucidiom
Buena Park-based Noritsu America, a manufacturer of photo printing systems and photo processing hardware for retailers, photo studios, and others, said today that it has acquired Lucidiom, a developer of self-service, retail photo kiosks and related online services. X1 Technologies Finds Asian Distributor
Pasadena-based X1 Technologies, a developer of enterprise search software, announced Monday that the firm has tapped Singapore firm Shepard Pte Ltd as a partner. X1 said that Shepard will represent the firm's Enterprise Search Solutions in Singapore and elsewhere in South Asia. Ortiva Wireless Adds Mobix
La Jolla-based Ortiva Wireless, a developer of products for managing mobile video streaming, said this morning that it has signed on Mobix Interactive as a customer. Financial impact of the customer win was not disclosed. Mobix Interactive is a provider of video-on-demand and TV services. Xencor In License Deal With Pfizer
Monrovia, California-based Xencor, which is developing antibodies to treat such things as Hodgkin lymphoma and inflammatory disease, said this morning that it has inked a technology license and evaluation agreement with Pfizer. Metabasis Names CFO
San Diego-based Metabasis Therapeutics has hired on a new Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, the firm disclosed today. Metabasis, which is developing biopharmaceuticals for treating metabolic and other diseases, said that it has named Tran B. Nguyen to the position. Nguyen joins the firm from Citi Global Markets Inc., where he was Vice President in the firm's Healthcare Investment Banking group. Nguyen has also served at Lehman Brothers.
