Demand Media's Cure For The Daily Grind: Puppies
Demand Media, the well funded online media firm run by former MySpace chairman Richard Rosenblatt, has a new solution to the recent doom, gloom, and stress brought on by the economy: a new iPhone app it is calling "The Daily Puppy." ZAM, Sony Tie In Game Information Deal
Los Angeles-based ZAM, and San Diego-based Sony Online Entertainment announced Wednesday that the two companies have tied on a new online site focused on information from Sony's EverQuest II massively multiplayer online game. According to the two, they have launched a site which will gives users access to EverQuest II's database, including information about game items and more. Texas Incubator Lures Away LA Startup
Capital Factory, a business incubation program based in Austin, Texas, has lured away a Los Angeles startup, Homstie, which operates an online marketplace which helps people find places to store their stuff. The person-to-person marketplace was started by a number of UCLA undergraduates. According to Capital Factory, the firm was one of five companies to receive $20,000 in funding and an additional $20,000 in services; as a result of the funding, the startup is moving to Austin. Teledyne Technologies Lops Employees, To Close Facilities
Thousand Oaks-based Teledyne Technologies, an aerospace and electronics firm, announced Wednesday that the firm has cut six percent of its North American workforce, eliminated salary increases, cut employee stock option awards, and will also close or relocate five of its operating sites, as it looks to cut expenses. Where 2 Get It Adds iPhone Support
Anaheim-based Where 2 Get It, a provider of applications to retailers to help their customers find their retail stores, said Wednesday that it has added a new, iPhone application for its customers. According to the firm, the "App Store" Locator and iPhone "Mobile Web" locator will allow its customers to support a branded store locator on Apple's popular iPhone. The firm counts ViewSonic and Church's Chicken as customers of the new application.

RotoHog, RazorGator Partner
Los Angeles-based RotoHog, a developer of fantasy sports games, disclosed this morning that it has signed an exclusive partnership with RazorGator. According to the firm, the deal covers the 2009 Baseball season, and will give RotoHog's Fantasy baseball players access to RazorGator's ticketing services. Financial details of the relationship were not disclosed. InteliCloud Hires VP
Newport Beach-based InteliCloud, a manufacturer of network equipment and blade systems, said this morning that it has hired on Hitendra "Sonny" Soni as its VP of Business Development. Soni joins the firm from FastSoft, where he was VP of Sales, Business Development, and Customer Services. Soni has also served at Clearmesh Networks, Accelerated Networks, Xylan/Alcatel, and Conexsys. Intelicloud recently raised a Series A funding round from Media One Direct.

Conexant Sells Broadband Product Lines
Newport Beach-based Conexant Systems reported today that the firm has sold off its Broadband Access product lines to Ikanos Communications, in a deal worth $54M in cash. Conexant said that the product organization develops DSL, ADSL, and other broadband hardware. Conexant said the sale is part of a restructring effort by the firm, which is looking to focus on imaging, audio, video, and embedded modem applications. As part of the deal, approximately 400 Conexant employees will join Ikanos.

Entropic In Win With Cox
San Diego-based Entropic Communications, a developer of semiconductors for the home entertainment market, disclosed Tuesday that Cox Communications will use the firm's technology as part of a set-top box deployment. Financial impact of the deal was not disclosed. According to Entropic, the win is part of a plan by Cox Communications to deploy set-top, DVRs later this year.
