DocStoc Releases Collections
Santa Monica-based DocStoc, the online document sharing site run by Jason Nazar, just released a new feature Thursday afternoon, DocStoc Collections, which allows users to create their own groupings of documents by topic. The new feature so far includes collections such as "Starting A Small Business," "Traveling On A Budget," "Writing Better Cover Letters," and similar topics. Study: Angel Investments Drop In 2008
The Angel Capital Association reported this week that investing activity by angel investments groups dropped by nine percent between 2008 and 2007, and 40 percent of angel groups expect overall investment to decrease again this year. The group, which released its ACA Angel Group Confidence Report this week, also found that the average group investment per deal was $276,918 in 2008, with total invested by groups in 2008 averaging at $1.77M. Quartics Raises $13.3M
Irvine-based Quartics, the digital media processing chip firm headed by former AST founder Safi Qureshey, has raised $13.3M as part of an ongoing, $21.7M fundraising, according to a regulatory filing from the firm. Details on the new funding have not yet been released by the firm. According to the filing, the equity raise occured on May 8th. NeoMend Finds $2.7M
Irvine-based NeoMend, which is developing wound healing products, disclosed this week via a regulatory filing that it has raised $2.7M out of a $3.5M funding round for the company, consisting of a convertible note along with warrants convertible to preferred stock. According to the filing, the firm's investors continue to include Prospect Venture Partners, Vivo Ventures, Sanderling Ventures, and Novo A/S.

Breach Security Gets $2.0M In Convertible Debt
Carlsbad-based security software firm Breach Security has raised $2.0M more in a convertible debt financing, according to a regulatory filing by the firm this week. No details on the funding have been released. Breach has previously raised venture funding from Enterprise Partners, RBA No. 5, and Evergreen Venture Partners. Breach most recently raised a venture round in July of last year, and has so far raised more than $32.5M in funding.

Quest Taps Ingram Micro For Distribution
Aliso Viejo-based Quest Software said Thursday that it has signed on fellow Orange County firm Ingram Micro as a distributor. According to Quest, the relationship wil make it easier for its partners to purchase its software, and also increase its presence in the reseller channel. The distribution deal covers both North and Latin America. Ingram Micro is based in Santa Ana, and is one of the largest technology distributors in the world.

Ripple Bolsters Board With Media Execs
El Segundo-based out-of-home advertising firm Ripple TV said today that it has added two media executives to the firm's board of directors. Ripple, which is venture backed by Draper Fisher Jurvetson and Trinity Ventures, said that Scott Hagedorn of Omnicom Media Group agency PHD USA, and Jack Myers of Myers Publishing have both joined its board. Novatel Wireless Adds Retired General to Board
San Diego-based Novatel Wireless reported Wednesday that it has appointed retired U.S. Army Gen. John D. Wakelin to its board of directors, effective Monday. The wireless broadband technology firm described Wakelin as an experienced professional who spent the past 20 years in senior executive and business development roles for Science Applications International Corp. Aragon Pharmaceuticals Gets $8M
La Jolla-based Aragon Pharmaceuticals reported Wednesday that it has raised $8M in a Series A financing. The firm, which is focused on small molecule therapeutics for treating hormone-resistant cancers, said that the financing was led by The Column Group and OrbiMed Advisors. The company said it is initially focused on prostate and breast cancer. Aragon's technology comes from research developed at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, and UCLA.
