Broadcom Extends Offer To Emulex Shareholders
Irvine-based Broadcom said Thursday that it will extend its tender offer to acquire all of the outstanding common shares of common stock of Emulex by two weeks, after the firm failed to get enough interest. According to Broadcom, it will extend its offer until 11:59pm on June 17th, saying in a statement that it believes its $9.25 per share offer is the "full and fair price" for Emulex. iolo Turns Eyes To SMB Market
Los Angeles-based iolo technologies, best known for its consumer System Mechanic software for optimizing PC settings, said Thursday that the firm is launching into the small business market with a new version of its product. iolo said its new product, System Mechanic Business, will be offered in bundles of 10, 25, 50, 75, or 100 PC licenses, and sold via its channel and through its own site. Central Desktop Taps Into Akamai
Pasadena-based Central Desktop, an online software-as-a-service site offering online project management software, said Thursday that the firm is tapping Akamai to improve its offering. According to Central Desktop, it is using Akamai's service specifically to scale and improve performance of its software-as-a-service offering. Central Desktop's project management tools compete against such software as Microsoft's SharePoint portal; the firm offers its products on a monthly subscription basis.

Qualcomm, Sun Port Java To Snapdragon
San Diego-based Qualcomm and Sun Microsystems announced today that the two are in an effort to port the popular Java programming language to Qualcomm's Snapdragon ARM processor. According to the two firms, Sun has ported its Java Platform Standard Edition 6( Java SE 6) to machines running on Qualcomm's processor. Passenger Gets Win With NYSE Euronext
Los Angeles-based Passenger, which develops online communities for brands, said Thursday that the firm is powering a new private online community for NYSE Euronext (NYX). Passenger said that the community is for investor relations executives of NYSE-listed companies. Financial impact of the win was not disclosed. United Online Rolls Out New Dialup Plan
Woodland Hills-based United Online is continuing to squeeze as many profits and customers out of its declining dial-up Internet access business as it can, saying this morning that its NetZero division has launched a new, toll free dialup plan targeted at people who do not have local connection numbers to connect to the Internet. DIRECTV Loses CEO To News Corp.
El Segundo-based satellite entertainment firm DIRECTV has lost its President and CEO, Chase Carey, to News Corporation, the firm said Wednesday, as Carey returned to News Corp. to work for Rupert Murdoch. Verimatrix Deploys In Mexico
San Diego-based Verimatrix reported this week that the firm is deploying its content security technology in Mexico, as part of an install at cable operator Cablemas. According to Verimatrix, its products are being used as part of a enhanced digital cable service, over an advanced DVB-C/IP/DOCSIS network. Size of the deployment, and financial impact, was not announced by the company. Verimatrix develops technology used to prevent copying of video content through pay TV services.
