AVST Gets $1.5M
Foothill Ranch-based Applied Voice & Speech Technologies has raised $1.5M out of a $3M financing round, including equity and options, according to a regulatory filing from the firm this morning. Details on the funding have not been released by the firm. AVST develops enterprise communications infrastructure including voicemail, email and fax messaging systems. AVST's investors include Ignition Partners, Dolphin Equity Partners, Captaris, and Escalate Capital Partners.

Santa Barbara Firm Claims China Stole Filtering Code
Santa Barbara-based Solid Oak Software, a maker of PC Internet filtering technology, is claiming that the firm's software code is being used by the country as part of a new program to force PC makers to install filtering software on all new PCs shipped in the country. In a report from the Wall Street Journal, the firm said it is looking for an injunction to prevent U.S. companies from shipping PCs with the Chinese software loaded. RoyaltyShare Expands Service To The UK
San Diego-based RoyaltyShare, a developer of software-as-a-service for tracking online music royalties, said today that the firm has expanded its service to handle tracking of royalties in the UK. RoyaltyShare said that it now supports mechanical royalties managed by the Mechanical-Copyright Protection Society (MCPS), used by UK record labels. Broadcom Gets HDTV Win At LG
Irvine-based Broadcom announced Monday that the firm has been selected in a design win from LG Electronics. According to the firm, a digital TV chip from the firm--the BCM3549 digital TV SOC--has been selected as part of a line of HDTVs with integrated online access. The LG HDTVs include connectivity to Neflix and Yahoo directly on their TV, and is being distributed through Best Buy and other retailers. Broadcom didn't say what the shipment levels or financial impact of the design win would be.

Mobicip Adds Parental Filtering for iPhone, Netbooks
Thousand Oaks-based Mobicip, a developer of web filtering products for parents, disclosed this morning that the firm has rolled out a new product targeted at parents of children with iPhones, the iPod Touch, and Netbooks. The firm said its new product, Mobicip.com Premium, offers tracking and filtering of web usage based on age-appropriate filtering levels, and also allows parents to create their own lists of allowed and disallowed web site for browsing. Vitesse Wins $22.5M From KPMG
Camarillo-based Vitesse Semiconductor announced this morning that the firm has won $22.5M in a lawsuit filed against auditing firm KPMG. Vitesse--which has been struggling for the past few years to resolve issues related to back-dated stock options--had filed suit in June of 2007 alleging that KPMG was negligent in auditing the firm's stock options grants and financial statements. Inovio Biomedical, Cardigant Medical In Licensing Deal
San Diego-based Inovio Biomedical and Long Beach-based Cardigant Medical announced this morning that the two firms are in a commercial license, where Cardigant Medical will use Inovio's technology to develop intravascular catheters. Financial details of the license were not disclosed, however, Inovio said that Cardigent will develop catheters using its electroporation technology, in exchange for an option fee, and on exercise of the option, royalties on product sales. Audyssey Launches New Product
Los Angeles-based Audyssey Laboratories, a venture-backed developer of audio equalization technology, disclosed this morning that it has rolled out a new, professional room calibration tool for improving home theater sound. According to the firm, its new Sub Equalizer product applies its audio technology to manage low frequency distortion, caused by room acoustics. Staccato Communications Names VP
San Diego-based Staccato Communications, a firm which develops ultra wideband (UWB) semiconductor for the wireless USB market, announced this morning that it has hired Andreas Melder as the firm's Vice President of Marketing and Business Development. Melder joins the firm from Intellon Corporation, and was also a founder at MIcrotune. In addition, Melder has served at Tripath Technology and Pixel Semiconductor.
