CommNexus Launches Incubation Effort
San Diego-based CommNexus, an industry group focused on the wireless industry, said Wednesday that the firm has created a new, related effort called EvoNexus, which will incubate communications technology and related startups. FreedomSpeaks Rolls Out White Label API
Los Angeles-based FreedomSpeaks, which provides online tools for connecting voters with elected officials, said Wednesday that the firm has rolled out a new web based application programming interface (API). XCast Labs Adds Videomail Support For Blackberry
Los Angeles-based XCast Labs, a developer of voice-over-IP technology and services, announced today that the firm has rolled out its IP video mail services to BlackBerry deviecs. EcoDog Scores Angel Funding
San Diego-based EcoDog, a developer of home energy efficiency and monitoring systems, said this morning that the firm has raised a round of angel funding. Amount of the funding was not disclosed. According to EcoDog, the funding came from Tom Page, who is the former head of San Diego Gas & Electric and Enova Corp. QAD Swaps Employee Options
Santa Barbara-based QAD, a developer of software for the manufacturing industry, disclosed today that the firm has begun a stock options exchange for its employees. According to the firm, it will allow non-director employees, excluding its CEO, President, board members, and consultants, to participate in the exchange. H2O Audio Links With Michael Phelps
San Diego-based H2O Audio, a developer of waterproof headphones and other accessories, said yesterday that the firm has inked a multi-year partnership with Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps. H2O Audio said that the firm and Phelps will collaborate on product development and marketing initiatives. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. Phelps' image and voice will be used on H2O Audio's product packaging, advertising, and displays, the firm said, with a campaign to launch in the summer.

MRV Dropped From Nasdaq
Chatsworth-based MRV Communications has been dropped from the NASDAQ Stock Market, the firm said this morning, saying that it has failed to demonstrate compliance with various Nasdaq Marketplace Rules around filing of quarterly and annual reports. The delisting came as a result of a restatement of the firm's financial statements. Halozyme Therapeutics Names VP
San Diego-based Halozyme Therapeutics reported today that the firm has named H. Michael Shepard, Ph.D., as the firm's new Vice President of Discovery Research. According to Halozyme, Shepard was most recently at Receptor Biologix, where he was founder and President. He has also served at Canji, and worked at Genentech on that firm's Herceptin compound. Halozyme is developing biopharmaceuticals targeted at the endocrinology, oncology, dermatology and drug delivery markets.
