For our Insights and Opinions section this afternoon, Docstoc's Jason Nazar makes a proposal on how to save MySpace. He says: I wouldn't bet against MySpace. They attract over 70 million people a month (just in the US), and by most accounts are still one of the 10 most popular sites in the world. Maverick Angels Expands Network
Maverick Angels, one of the angel investment groups in the Los Angeles area, said this afternoon that the group is launching two new chapters, expanding into the Santa Barbara and South Bay area. According to a note from John Dilts, the angel group's founder and President, the move comes due to the increase in entrepreneurs coming to angel groups, given the retracting availability of funding from banks and venture capital firms. CEIVA Logic Claims Patent Win
Burbank-based CEIVA Logic, a developer of Internet-connected, digital photo frames, said this week that a Los Angeles Federal District Court has ruled that competitor Frame Media's products infringe on one of its patents, relating to its digital photo sharing system. According to CEIVA, the Court found Frame Media's service to distribute images to connected photo frames violates a U.S. Patent, No., 65,442,573, owned by the company. V-Vehicle Gets Kleiner Backing, Opens Louisiana Plant
San Diego-based V-Vehicle Company and venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers teamed up with the Governor of Louisiana and the Louisiana Economic Development agency yesterday to announce that it has purchased a defunct automotive plant in Monroe, Louisiana, to manufacture its energy efficient, environmentally friendly automobiles. Study: Most Entrepreneurs Between 55-64
A new study released today by the Kauffman Foundation, reports that the highest rate of entrepreneurial activity belongs to people 55-64. The study--which attempts to characterize who might drive the next wave of entrepreneurial activity in the United States--also found that the average age of U.S.-born, technology founders when they started their companies was 39. Ceradyne Gains $8.3M Order From U.S. Marines
Costa Mesa-based Ceradyne, a developer of ceramic body armor, said today that it has received an $8.3M order from the U.S. Marines. The firm said the product win is expected to be delivered by September, and is part of a larger contract the firm announced with the U.S. Marines earlier.

Active Network Releases Web-based Events Management Product
San Diego-based The Active Network, an operator of a network of services for community, sports, and other organizations, said today that it has released a new product focused on event management. The firm said its new product, ActiveEvents OnDemand, provide tools to event planners for managing conferences, meetings, tradeshows, seminars, and other events. Outcast, PumpTop TV Launch Combined Joint Venture
Santa Monica-based Outcast, and Irvine-based AdtekMedia, the operator of out-of-home advertising network PumpTop TV, said today that the two firms have created a new, joint venture focused on at-the-pump displays. According to the two, Outcast will be responsible for advertising sales and marketing of the network, and AdtekMedia will provide software and systems development, as well as focus on product and technology innovation.
