QLogic Sees Drop In Revenues
Aliso Viejo-based QLogic, which makes host bus adapters and switches for the storage area networking market, reported its first quarter results Tuesday, saying that its net revenues dropped from $168.4M last year in Q1 to $122.8M for this quarter. The firm saw a steep drop in revenue from its host products business, reporting only $88.3M during Q2 versus $120.7M for the same quarter last year. SheKnows Cracks Top 10 Gaining Web Properties
Los Angeles-based SheKnows, the online women's media site owned by AtomicOnline, has shown up in the top 10 list of gaining properties, based comScore's latest ranking of web visitors today. comScore's monthly analysis for June 2009 finds that SheKnows was number 9 in terms of increase in unique visitors between May and June, with a 20% increase, just below Disney Online, which had a 21% increase in unique visitors for the month. Solaren Gets $600K For Space Power
Manhattan Beach-based Solaren, a firm developing space-based power systems, has raised $609,600 in a equity funding round, according to a regulatory filing from the firm earlier this month. Source of the funding was not disclosed. The firm is reportedly working on launching solar panels into space, and then beaming back that energy to earth using high powered radio waves.

Future Ads' PlaySushi Sees Growth
Irvine-based Future Ads, which runs the casual games sites Gamevance.com and PlaySushi.com, said that the firm's new PlaySushi site has seen what the firm described as "dramatic growth" since going live three months ago. The company claimed that it has seen three million visitors and a million game plays on the site since it opened. Topspin In Distribution Deal With INgrooves

SAIL Venture Partners Adds Advisor
Costa Mesa-based SAIL Venture Partners, a venture capital firm focused on clean technology, announced Tuesday that the firm has added Joseph J. O'Byrne to the firm's board of advisors. Byrne was most recently a Senior Consultant in Alternative Investments with New England Pension Consultants (NEPC). Service-now.com Reports Yearly Revenues
Privately held, San Diego firm Service-now.com, a developer of IT service automation software-as-a-service, has released its yearly financial results, in an unusual move. The firm said today that it closed its fiscal year on June 30, 2009, with more than $28M in recurring revenue, and 280 customers. Service-now.com said that it is now expecting to be profitable next year and have more than $50M in recurring revenue. Advanced Telemetry Raises Series B
San Diego-based Advanced Telemetry, a developer of energy monitoring systems, said today that it has closed a Series B investment round for the company. Size of the round was not disclosed. The firm said the round was led by Quercus Trust, and also included 21Ventures. Advanced Telemetry said the funding will go to increase production and expand sales channels for the firm's products, which are used by retailers to monitor their energy usage. Marshal8e6 Adds Email Encryption
Orange-based Marshal8e6, a developer of web and email security tools, said today that it has added email encryption to its lineup. According to the firm, its new offering, MailMarshal SendSecure, will provide encryption of email messages via a hosted service. Pricing on the new service was not disclosed. Marshal8e6 said it will be tappping the services of email encryption firm ZixCorp for the new offering.

Telogis Gets $2M
Aliso Viejo-based Telogis, a developer of wireless fleet management software, has raised $2.0M in venture funding. The funding was revealed in this quarter's PwC/NVCA MoneyTree report. Details on the funding have not been released. Telogis develops software-as-a-service which allows fleet managers to track and dispatch drivers, as well as provide route optimization and other related services.

Smith Micro Gets Win With WiMAX Operator
Aliso Viejo-based Smith Micro Software has been selected by a provider of WiMAX broadband networks, DigitalBridge Communications Corp., the firm reported this morning. Financial impact of the win was not disclosed. Smith Micro's 4G connection management software will be used by DigitalBridge to manage the rollout of DigitalBridge's WiMAX to markets in Idaho, Indiana, Montana, South Dakota, Virginia and Wyoming. Smith Micro's software is used to manage login to wireless providers.

Ortiva Wireless Names Sales VP
La Jolla-based Ortiva wireless, a developer of mobile video products, announced today that it has appointed Mark Eger as the firm's Vice President, Sales, Americas. Eger was most recently at PacketVideo, and has also served at Motricity, Littlefeet, Ericsson, and Qualcomm. Eger will report to SVP of Worldwide Sales, James Edson, who the firm added in June. Ortiva's products are used to stream video to mobile devices.

Jazz Semi, Entropic Hit Volume Production
Newport Beach-based Jazz Semiconductor and San Diego-based Entropic Communications announced this morning that the two firms have entered into volume production of Entropic's new multi-mode, hybrid silicon tuner chip. The two firms said that Entropic's tuner--which is used for digital TV and set-top box applications--is using Jazz's 0.18-micron CMOS processes. The companies did not say what their anticipated production levels would be on the product.

NVCA Reports $3.7B In Investments Nationally; SoCal Lags
PricewaterhouseCoopers and the National Venture Capital Association are reporting today that venture capitalists invested $3.7B in 612 deals in Q2 of the year, according to data from Thomson Reuters, with Southern California seeing $331.2M in 52 venture deals. According to the report, financing nationally was essentially flat from Q1 of 2009, when $3.2B was invested in 603 deals.
