Qualcomm Disputes Japanese Order
San Diego-based Qualcomm said Thursday that the firm disputes the claims in an order it received from the Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) this week. The JFTC had claimed that Qualcomm's Japanese licensees were force to cross license patents to Qualcomm on a royalty-free basis, and that they were also forced to not exert patents against each other. LowFares.com Sees Traffic Jump
Travel search site LowFares.com, which is owned by Oversee.net, is reporting that it has seen a jump in visitors to the site of 73 percent since the beginning of the year. The firm told socalTECH that the boost came both because it has been more aggressive in search engine marketing, and a new travel deals newsletter which has driven customers to return to the site. Cornerstone OnDemand Finds Australian Reseller
Santa Monica-based Cornerstone OnDemand, which develops human resources and talent management software, said Thursday that it has linked with a firm to reseller its products in the Asia Pacific region. The firm said that it has partnered with Talent2, a talent management and HR outsourcing firm headquartered in Australia. Docufide In Michigan Win
Los Angeles-based Docufide, which develops systems for electronic transfer of school transcripts between high schools and colleges, said this week that it has inked a deal with the Center for Educational Performance and Information (CEPI). Capcom Interactive Hails "Cash Cab"
Los Angeles-based Capcom Interactive, the mobile development arm of game developer Capcom, said Thursday that the firm has signed into a licensing agreement with Discovery Communications, to launch a new mobile game based on Discovery's "Cash Cab." UCSB, USC Benefit From Energy Research Grants
The Department of Energy (DOE) said this week that it has awarded $377M in funding for 46, Energy Frontier Research Centers (EFRCs) focused on reducing dependence on imported oil and to curtail greenhouse gas emissions, including a center at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and one at the University of Southern California. SYSPRO Adds Customer In Tennessee
Costa Mesa-based SYSPRO, a developer of enterprise resource planning (ERP) software, said Thursday that it has signed a new contract with a Savannah, Tennessee firm, Design Team Sign Company. SYSPRO said it edged out Epicor and Microsoft in winning the deal. Size of the win was not disclosed. Design Team Sign Company is a manufacturer of custom signage.

ReachLocal Hits $147M In Revenues
One of the revelations in yesterday's Inc. 500 listing was that Woodland Hills-based ReachLocal, a venture backed provider of local online marketing services, hit $147M in revenues in 2008, up significantly from $4.4M in revenues of 2005. The revelation is the first public disclosure how much the firm's business has grown recently. The listing also revealed that the firm was up to 707 employees as of 2008; a spokesperson for the firm says that the company now actually is well over 800 employees (More info...)
