DemoPit.com Launches Startup Site
Los Angeles-based DemoPit.com, a new web site profiling startups and technology, launched Monday afternoon, saying that it is looking to help startups and small businesses to demo their products and projects. The site--founded by John Diep--is also hoping to do quarterly live demo events to show off startups featured on the site.

EMN8 Shifts Manufacturing To IBM
San Diego-based EMN8, a developer of self-service, restaurant kiosks, said Monday that the firm is in a agreement with IBM, where the two will jointly manufacture, market, and support its products. EMN8 said it will transition production of its OrderM8 4000 kiosk hardware to IBM. The company also said they will mutually market EMN8's solutions. EMN8 is backed by GRP Partners, Sid R. Bass Assocites, and Fort Washington Capital. Financial details of the arrangement were not disclosed.

Language Weaver Expands Online Translation Efforts
Los Angeles-based Language Weaver, a developer of automated language translation software, is expanding its efforts to tap the online translation market, saying that it is in a strategic partnership with WorldLingo Translations. Language Weaver said its software will be included in WorldLingo's free online language translator, to help users translate text, documents, websites, and email. BlackLine Systems Hires EVP
Calabasas-based BlackLine Systems, which develops financial close software for companies, is expanding, saying today that it has hired on Greg Pond as an Executive Vice President at the firm. Pond has served at SunGard Data Systems, and started ADS Associates, which he sold to SunGard in 1997. Pond has been serving as an advisor to BlackLine Systems for the past six years; BlackLine founder Therese Tucker worked with Pond at ADS/SunGard.

Report: MySpace Acquiring iLike
A report today from TechCrunch reports that Los Angeles-based online social networking site MySpace is in the process of acquiring iLike, which operates an online service that allows users to share their music playlists and recommendations with friends. Neither company has confirmed the deal, which TechCrunch puts at "around $20 million." iLike is backed by Ticketmaster.

Quub Upgrades Android Client
Irvine-based Quub, which is developing status-update and presence software--that integrates with the Twitter micro-blogging service and other social networking web sites like Facebook--said last week that it has made a couple of upgrades for the firm's Android client. Web Hackers Targeting Social Networking Sites
Carlsbad-based Breach Security, a developer of Internet security software, has released the results of a security report, saying that nineteen percent of all online attacks in 2009 so far have been based on social networking sites. According to the company's Web Hacking Incidents Database (WHID) 2009 Bi-Annual Report, hackers are taking advantage of user generated content, Twitter, and other Web 2.0 web sites to launch their hacking attempts. The Active Network Jumps On Green Racing Effort
San Diego-based The Active Network, which operates a network of web sites and related products for community service and sports organizations, said today that it has launched a new program focused on "eco-friendly" practices in endurance racing. iRise Links With Consulting Firm
El Segundo-based iRise announced today that Greenridge Business Systems, a developer of custom applications, is now part of its partner program. iRise said that Greenridge will be using the firm's visualization software to develop software for its clients, particularly for project proposals. Greenridge Business Systems serves Western Canada, with offices in Winnipeg and Calgary.

Yardi Gains Customer
Santa Barbara-based Yardi Software, which develops software used for real estate management, including asset and property management, said today that it has gained a win with Physicians' Capital Investments.
