New Twist On Malware: Recording Skype Phone Calls
There's a new twist on the neverending battle against viruses and malware today: researchers at computer security software firm Symantec are reporting that there is now publicly available source code, which hacks the Skype Voice-over-IP software to record audio from any Skype call in progress on a users' computer, and transmit them to an attacker. ValenTX Raises $20.28M
Carpinteria-based ValenTX, a developer of treatments for obesity, has raised $20.28M in an equity funding round, according to a regulatory filing by the firm Thursday. Details on the funding have not been released by the company. ValenTx has previously raised capital from EDF Ventures, Sapient Capital, Affinity Capital Partners, Kaiser-Permanente Ventures and T-Gap Ventures.

Soliant Opens Pilot Plant
Monrovia-based Soliant Energy, a developer of solar concentrators, is opening up its new pilot production plant in Monrovia today, saying that the plant will produce up to 1 megawatt of solar panels annually. The firm is having a ribbon cutting on the plant this morning with Congressman David Dreier. Soliant said the new pilot line will result in up to 40 new staff members at the company. MyShape Picks Up $10.5M
Pasadena-based MyShape, the personalized fashion retailer run by Louise Wannier, has raised $10.5M in a new round of equity funding, according to a regulatory filing by the firm Wednesday. The filing says the fundraising is part of a nearly $12.1M round. No details on the funding have yet been announced by the company, which is backed by Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Lehman Brothers Venture Partners, the Pasadena Angels, and the Tech Coast Angels. CFX Battery Raises $5M
Azusa-based CFX Battery, a developer of battery technology, has raised $5.0M in what looks to be the first tranche of an ongoing funding round. The funding came to light through a regulatory filing this week. According to the filing, the new funding is part of a $26.9M fundraising effort by the firm. No details of the funding have been released by the company, however, CFX has previously raised funding from CMEA Ventures, Harris and Harris, and US Venture Partners. Emulex Gets IBM BladeCenter Design Win
Costa Mesa-based storage adapter firm Emulex reported this morning that the firm has scored a design win with IBM, on a adapter for IBM's BladeCenter HS22 blade servers. The firm said that it will provide its technology for a 10Gb/s Ethernet NIC for IBM, as part of the Virtual Fabric Adapter CFFh for IBM BladeCenter. Emulex had disclosed it had signed a patent cross licensing deal with IBM earlier in the week, covering the technology behind the adapter.

Transcepta Links With Credit Card Processor
Aliso Viejo-based Transcepta, which develops electronic invoicing services, said Wednesday that it has partnered with credit card payment processing firm Transcom, which is a division of Merchant e-Solutions. Transcepta said the relationship allows accounts payable departments to use corporate purchasing cards to pay invoices in its system. Transcepta is backed by the Tech Coast Angels, and offers electronic invoicing products used to eliminate paper invoices.

Equinix Opens New L.A. Data Center
Colocation provider Equinix announced today that it has opened up a new, $95M data center located in El Segundo, the firm's fourth in the L.A. area. According to Equinix, the expansion of its colocation and network exchange services here is a result of demand from entertainment and digital media companies. The firm said its new, 177,0000 square foot center in El Segundo has a capacity of approximately 3,000 cabinets.
