MSC.Software Gets Approval On Acquisition
The long, drawn out bidding war for Santa Ana-based MSC.Software appears to be at a close today, as MSC reported that a majority of its shares have been voted to adopt the firm's latest merger offer from Maximus Holdings Inc. and Maximus Inc., worth $8.40 per share in cash for each share of the firm's common stock. Calacanis Expands Campaign Against Pitching Fees
Jason Calacanis, the CEO of Santa Monica-based Mahalo, is continuing his crusade against angel groups and others who charge startups to pitch their groups, saying that he's now calling on groups to stop charging fees, and post what fees they were charging to entrepreneurs on their web sites. Mzima Selected For NetDNA's Content Delivery Network
Los Angeles-based Mzima Networks, a provider of network services, said earlier this week that content deliver network firm NetDNA--also based in Los Angeles--has selected the firm's low-latency, 10 Gigabit backbone. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. Mzima operates a global optical backbone network. NetDNA provides content delivery network services for ad networks and application acceleration.

Geodelic Lands Universal Studios Hollywood
Santa Monica-based Geodelic, the latest startup of The Platform founder Rahul Sonnad, said today that it has partnered up with Universal Studios Hollywood on a mobile application focused on Universal's "Halloween Horror Nights" event. Flux Power Spins Out Of LHV
San Diego-based LHV Power, a supplier of power supplies to the electronics and medical instruments markets, said late Thursday that it has spun off a new company called Flux Power, which will focuse on Lithium battery technology management, including smart charging systems and related systems. iCONECT Hires Silver As CTO
Redondo Beach-based iCONECT Development, a developer of litigation support software, said this morning that it has hired on former X1 Technologies Vice President Howard G. Silver as its Chief Technology Officer. According to iCONECT, Silver will spearhead new product development for the firm, which is used by corporations, law firms, and others for electronic discovery. eSolar Expands Into South Africa
Pasadena-based eSolar, a developer of solar thermal power technology being used for power plants, said this morning that the firm has inked a deal with a South African firm to expand sales through Sub-Saharan Africa.
