MicroMedia Filtration Gains Series A Funding
Lake Forest-based MicroMedia Filtration, a developer of wastewater treatment systems for municipalities, said today that it has raised a Series A funding. The funding came from Costa Mesa-based SAIL Venture Partners. Amount of the equity funding was not disclosed, however, a regulatory filing places the amount at $3.0M. MMF said its modular systems require the fraction of the square footage of conventional systems, with capital costs of 50% of other systems, as well as requirements for 80% less (More info...)

Break Lands Deal For Webisode Series
Los Angeles-based Break Media, an online site which caters to males, announced today that it has signed a deal with liquor maker Southern Comfort to develop a branded content project, "Social Sportz Net". Break said the series of webisodes was developed by Break Creative Lab with Southern Comfort, focused on showing "everything guys need to know to host a killer house party." Financial details behind the deal were not disclosed, however, Break said it will produce 8 installments of the series.

M86 Security Buys Finjan
Orange-based M86 Security, a developer of web security tools, said today that it has acquired Finjan, a developer of secure Web gateways. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Finjan is based in San Jose, with operations in Netanya, Israel. According to M86 Security, the deal includes Finjan's global operations, products, and technology. M86 will continue to maintain a development center and operations in Israel, merging Finjan's Malicious Code Research Center into M86 Security Labs. M (More info...)

Accenx Acquired By Initiate Systems
Irvine-based Accenx Technologies, a provider of health information exchange software, has been acquired by Initiate Systems, a data management firm based in Chicago. Financial terms of the deal were not released. According to Initiate, the buy expands the breadth and reach of its interoperable health solutions.

New Fellowship For MBA Students At UCI Honors Luis Villalobos
A new endowed fellowship fund, which will be awarded to a graduate MBA student at the Paul Merage School of Business at University of California, Irvine, has been established to honor the Tech Coast Angels' Luis Villalobos. Sonos Ships iPhone-Powered Wireless Music System
Santa Barbara-based Sonos, a developer of wireless, whole-house music systems, said today that its new iPhone-powered music system, the Sonos ZonePlayer S5, is now available for purchase in the U.S. and Canada. The new system--which was announced the system in early October--allows users to use their iPhone to control and search for songs on the system. X PRIZE Foundation, NASA Name $2M Lunar Lander Winners
Playa Vista-based X PRIZE Foundation and NASA have named the winners of the $2M, Northrop Grumman Lunar Lander X PRIZE Challenge, after the finals were held over the weekend in the Mojave Desert. According to the groups, they will award $1M to Masten Space Systems, the largest award since the 2004 Ansari X PRIZE competition, for Masten's performance last week in the competition to design a rocket simulating a full lunar lander mission. ProQuo Shuts Down
La Jolla-based ProQuo, a venture-backed startup helping consumers manage and reduce junk mail, has quietly shut down, according to reports. ProQuo was venture backed by Mission Ventures and Draper Fisher Jurvetson, and had raised around $15M in funding. The shutdown was first noted by Xconomy.

Arkeia Software Buys Deduplication Firm
San Diego-based Arkeia Software announced today that it has acquired Kadena Systems, a developer of data deduplication technology. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. According to Arkeia, it will integrate Kadena's deduplicaton technology into its Arkeia Network Backup product. The firm said the addition of the technology will provide source-side, data deduplication for its software, which will accelerate backup and reduce network congestion. Giiv Gets $2.3M
Los Angeles-based Giiv, a mobile gifting service, has raised $2.3M in a funding round, according to a recent regulatory filing from the firm. Details on the funding have not been disclosed, however, Richard Yen of Saban Ventures now sits on the company's board of directors. Giiv operates an online service which allows mobile phone and Internet users to send gifts to their friends.

FatTail Launches Ad System
Woodland Hills-based FatTail, a developer of software for managing online advertising for web publishers, announced today that it has launched a new, self-serve display ad selling system called PageGage Direct. Servoy Upgrades SaaS Software
Thousand Oaks-based Servoy, a developer of software for developing software-as-a-service applications, said Monday that it has upgraded its namesake platform. According to the company, the upgraded software includes updates such as real-time clustering, drag-and-drop support, and ability to run applications either as software-as-a-service or through on-premise deployment.
