The round was led by Time Warner, and also included prior investors Clearstone Venture Partners and Prism VentureWorks. Six Degree Games is headed by Minard Hamilton. The new round brings the company's total raised to $14M.

Maverick Angels Expands In ItalyLos Angeles-based Maverick Angels, the angel investment group headed by John Dilts, formally announced its expansion into Italy today, saying it has tied with Intesa SanPaolo Bank to create a new angel investor network based in Milan. BuzzMedia Taps MySpace For ExecLos Angeles-based Buzzmedia, which operates Buzznet, Celebuzz, and other pop culture web sites, said today that it has hired Chris George, former Vice President of Integrated Marketing at MySpace, as its Senior Vice President of Integrated Marketing and Operations. OptionEase Signs Central DesktopSan Juan Capistrano-based OptionEase, a developer of software-as-a-service for options accounting, announced today that Pasadena-based Central Desktop, a provider of software-as-a-service for project management and collaboration, has signed on as a customer. Stamps.com Links To E-Commerce Payment ProvidersLos Angeles-based Stamps.com is furthering its focus on online stories, saying today that it has linked its product to the e-commerce payment systems for Amazon.com Pro Merchant, Yahoo Merchant, Google Checkout, and Paypal. The new additions come on top of an existing push by Stamps.com to cater to eBay merchants. RFaxis Expands Into TaiwanIrvine-based RFaxis, a semiconductor firm developing RF front ends, said today that it has expanded into Taiwan, and has opened up an office to support sales and marketing support to its customers. The firm said the office is located in the Neihu Science Park in Taipei, Taiwan. RFaxis said that the branch office will support customers in Taiwan, China, and other Southeast Asian countries. RFaxis is a developer of single chip, front end, BiCMOS chips aimed at the wireless market.

Life Technologies Buys BioTroveCarlsbad-based Life Technologies said today that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire BioTrove, a developer of a high throughput gene expression and genotyping analysis system. Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed. Life Technologies said the deal is not expected to have a material effect on its financials in fiscal year 2009. Boingo Powers Google Free Wi-Fi OfferWestwood-based Boingo Wireless is behind a big promotion announced today by search engine giant Google, where Google will be offering free Wi-Fi to travelers at airports across the country. Google said today that it will offer free wireless at 47 airports, including Las Vegas, San Jose, Boston, Baltimore, Burbank, Houston, Indianapolis, Seattle, Miami, Ft. Broadcom Open Sources CodecsIrvine-based Broadcom is releasing a family of its voice codecs into open source this morning, the firm said, in an effort to eliminate royalties and licensing fees required by its competitors. According to Broadcom, it is releasing its BroadVoice family of voice codecs royalty-free and without any licensing fees, and will release the source code to those codecs under the GNU Lesser General Public License (LGPL), version 2.1. Rumor: Gizmo5 Acquired By GoogleA report from TechCrunch claims that San Diego-based Gizmo5, the voice-over-IP startup founded by Michael Robertson, has been acquired by Google. No confirmation of any deal was provided by either Google or Gizmo5. Quoting unnamed sources, TechCrunch claims that the deal is worth approximately $30M in cash. Integrien Claims Record GrowthIrvine-based Integrien, a developer of IT analytics and performance measurement software, reported today that it had "record" quarterly bookings in Q3 of 2009. The privately held firm said its bookings were up 238% year-over-year. Actual financials were not disclosed by the company. The firm said it closed the largest deal in its history in the quarter from a financial firm. Integrien is venture backed by Acartha Group, Clearstone Venture Partners, and the Tech Coast Angels.
