Youbet.com Acquired By Churchill Downs
Burbank-based Youbet.com, an online site focused on horse racing wagering and content, has been acquired by Churchill Downs Incorporated in a deal worth $126.8M. Churchill Downs operates thoroughbred racing events such as the Kentucky Derby. Churchill Downs said late Wednesday it would pay 0.0598 shares of its common stock, plus $0.97 in cash for each share of Youbet common stock.

Altair Therapeutics Raises $17M
San Diego-based Altair Therapeutics said Wednesday afternoon that it has raised $17M in a financing round. According to the firm, the round was led by Domain Associates, and also included AgeChem Venture Fund; Thomas, McNerney & Partners; Forward Ventures; and Isis Pharmaceuticals. The firm said the funding will go to complete phase 2a trials on its lead product, which is being targeted at treating asthma, allergic rhinitis, and other inflammatory disorders.

LeadPoint Launches Ordering System
Los Angeles-based LeadPoint, a venture-backed firm which operates an online lead exchange, said today that it has launched a new, digital order system for the lead generation industry. The firm said its order system allows buyers to submit and receive insertion orders online, instead of using FAX or phone calls. The firm said the new ordering system will give its customers more effective tracking of campaigns and order changes. iolo Expands Distribution To Middle East
Los Angeles-based iolo technologies, a developer of utility software for Windows computers, said Tuesday that the firm is now distributing its products throughout the Middle East. The firm said that its products are now available in Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, KSA, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Pakistan, Palestine, Turkey, UAE and Yemen, both via the web and retail stores. TowerJazz Wins Phasor Solutions
Newport Beach-based TowerJazz, the semiconductor foundry which was Jazz Semiconductor, said today that it has been selected by Phasor Solutions, a developer of phased array antennas for the satellite communications and radar market. TowerJazz said that it has been selected for its high performance, SiGe BiCMOS process, to manufacture Phasor's transceiver chipset. Novatel Wireless Ties With M2M Firm
San Diego-based Novatel Wireless, a developer of wireless and broadband modems, said this week that it has partnered with Cinterion Wireless Modules. The firms said that they will partner to address the machine-to-machine (M2M) market, by developing co-branded, CDMA modules developed by Novatel in Cinterion's form factor. The companies said that they will jointly focus on sales, marketing, and technical support.
