Semtech Buys Sierra Monolithics For $180M
Camarillo-based Semtech, a manufacturer of mixed signal and analog semiconductors, announced late Wednesday that it is acquiring Irvine-based Sierra Monolithics, in a deal worth $180M in cash. Sierra Monolithics has around 110 employees, and operations in both Irvine and Redondo Beach. Semtech said it expects the transaction to be accretive to its GAAP earnings per share within twelve months, generating approximately $50M in revenue in calendar year 2009. Newegg Expands In Canada
E-commerce retailer Newegg, which is based in the City of Industry, is expanding in Canada, the firm announced Wednesday afternoon, with new offices and a warehouse. Newegg said it has opened up its first office and warehouse in Mississauga, Ontario, with 55,000 square feet of mostly warehouse operations. The firm said the move comes at its one-year anniversary of entering the country. Total Beauty Rises In Traffic Rankings
Los Angeles-based Total Beauty, the women's fashion and beauty site headed by Emrah Kovacoglu, reports today that the firm has hit the number 4 position in comScore's ranking of beauty/fashion sites. Total Beauty also said it is number one in terms of time spent per visit. Total Beauty operates an online site focused on fashion and beauty, including user-generated reviews and daily editorial information. InteliCloud Adds Former Apple CEO To Board
Newport Beach-based InteliCloud, a manufacturer of blade server equipment, announced Wednesday that it has added Gil Amelio, the former CEO of Apple and National Semiconductor, to its board of advisors. Amelio was CEO of Apple between 1994 and 1997, CEO of National Semiconductor between 1991 and 1996, and is now a Senior Partner at Sienna Ventures. InteliCloud said Amelio will help the firm take the company's products to market.

Friendgiftr Takes On Gift Card Sales
Hollywood-based Friendgiftr, a developer of a Facebook application selling retail and restaurant gift cards, disclosed today that it has received funding from a member of the Tech Coast Angels. Amount and timing of the funding was not disclosed. Friendgiftr allows Facebook users to buy and send real and digital gift cards to their friends and family through the Facebook platform. UNX Gets Funding, Names CEO
Los Angeles-based UNX, a provider of technology for the electronic trading and institutional investing market, has scored a round of strategic funding and named a CEO, the firm said Tuesday. The funding came from Goldman, Sachs & Co. and Vernon & Park Capital, along with un-named, current investors. UNX said the new funding will go to support enhancing the firm's broker-neutral, electronic trading products and serviecs. EA Shutters Pandemic Studios
Electronics Arts is shutting down Los Angeles-based Pandemic Studios, according to an internal note leaked to gaming news site Kotaku. According to the note, Electronic Arts has laid off around 200 employees, and transitioned the rest to Electronic Arts' Los Angeles office. EA bought Pandemic in 2007, in a deal worth $775M.

Break Partners With Sony, Others
Los Angeles-based Break Media, which operates a network of online content properties targeted at the male demographic, said today that it has signed up a slate of new content partners for its sites. The firm said it has added Sony Music, FEARnet, Babelgum, and Blastro as content partners on its various sites, with those firms providing television series, original content, comedy, horror videos, and more. Symwave Taps Broadcom For CFO
Laguna Niguel-based Symwave, a developer of USB semiconductors, said yesterday that it has hired Adam Spice as the firm's new Chief Financial Officer. Spice was most recently Broadcom's Vice President of Finance and Corporate Development, and was headed up Broadcom's acquisitions and strategic equity investments.
