Spark Networks Launches New Dating Site
Beverly Hills-based Spark Networks, which operates a network of online, vertical dating sites, said Friday that it has rolled out a new site, The new dating site consolidates members from two of the firm's other dating sites, and Both of those sites are now redirecting users to the new site. Tanner Research Gets $1.2M Army Contract
Monrovia-based Tanner Research has received a $1.2M contract from the Army Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center (ARDEC), the firm said Friday afternoon, in additional funding as part of a research program. Tanner said the funding is part of the firm's development of technology to intercept rocket, artillery, and mortar threats for ARDEC. EA Mobile Ships Need For Speed SHIFT
Los Angeles-based EA Mobile, the mobile apps division of Electronic Arts, said Friday that its driving simulation game Need for Speed SHIFT debuted Friday on the Apple App Store. The game, which runs on the iPhone and iPod touch, includes multi-player support using Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. The application lists for $9.99. The app is a follow on to the firm's earlier iPhone title, Need for Speed Undercover, which was released in May. EA Mobile was formerly JAMDAT Mobile.

BridgeCo Adds $7.5M
El Segundo-based BridgeCo, a developer of semiconductors for the home entertainment market, announced Friday that it has raised $7.5M in a new round of funding. The firm said the new investment came from Earlybird Venture Capital, and private investors Christian Wenger and Brian Long. Long is at private equity firm Atlantic Bridge, and will join the firm's board as Chairman. MySpace, WSJ To Send User To Davos
Los Angeles-based social networking site MySpace, The Wall Street Journal, and the World Economic Forum today said that the firms are in a contest to send a "citizen journalist" to the Davos World Economic Forum. According to the firms, the "citizen journalist" will join the Davos press corp, and report on conference news and interview world leaders for MySpace and The Wall Street Journal. WD, NEC Link Efforts On Superspeed USB
Lake Forest-based WD, a manufacturer of disk drives, said Thursday that it is in an effort with NEC Electronics to promote the new, SuperSpeed Universal Serial Bus (USB) 3.0 standard. According to the firms, they are in a partnership to develop drivers based on the UASP mass storage protocol, targeted at the hard drive market, which will boost transfer speeds to disk drives by 30 percent.
