Achates Power Raises $19.2M
San Diego-based Achates Power, which is developing 4-cylinder, piston engine technology, said late Friday that it has raised $19.2M in a Series B funding round. The funding came from Triangle Peak Partners, Sequoia Capital, Rockport Capital Partners, Madrone Capital Partners, and InterWest Partners. As part of the funding, Dain DeGroff of Triangle Peak partners joins the firm's board. The firm says its engines provide better fuel efficiency and power density than conventional engine technology.

Slacker Radio Links With ABC News
San Diego-based Slacker, the online personalized radio service backed by Mission Ventures, Austin Ventures, Centennial Ventures, Rho Ventures, and Sevin Rosen Funds, said Thursday that it is adding ABC News to its Slacker personal radio service. The firm said that the firm's listeners will have access to a dedicated news station including ABC News content. Vitesse Looks To Regain Listing On NASDAQ, Eyes Reverse Split
Camarillo-based Vitesse Semiconductor said late Thursday that it has launched an effort to regain listing on the NASDAQ, starting with a reverse stock split. Vitesse, which has been on the Pink Sheets since dropping off the NASDAQ in June 2006 related to an investigation into the firm's stock options grant practices by the SEC, said the firm is seeking to regain NASDAQ relisting, to increase the opportunity for stock liquidity, as well as investor and analyst support. DTS Wins NeoFidelity
Calabasas-based DTS, a provider of audio processing technology, said yesterday at CES that its DTS Envelo Speaker and DTS Envelo Headphone technology has been incorporated into ICs from NeoFidelity. NeoFidelity is developing ICs used for iPod docking stations and other consumer electronics. DTS said that its technology offers portable audio device users a boost in sound quality, including support for 5.1 multi-channel sound and surround sound effects. BridgeCo Upgrades Music Networking Products
El Segundo-based BridgeCo, a developer of embedded semiconductors and software for the home entertainment networking market, said Thursday at CES that it has launched the next generation of its JukeBlox product. Inovio Taps Merck For Chief Medical Officer
San Diego-based Inovio Biomedical said this week that it has tapped a Merck veteran for its new Chief Medical Officer. According to Inovio, it has hired on mark L. Bagarazzi, M.D>, as Chief Medical Officer heading up worldwide clinical development and regulatory activities for the firm. Traversa Names Research VP
San Diego-based Traversa Therapeutics, a biopharmaceuticals firm developing RNA interference (RNAi) technology, said earlier this week that it has named Curt W. Bradshaw as Vice President of Research and Development. Bradshaw joins the firm from CovX, where he was Vice President of Chemistry. Bradshaw has also previously served at Ligand Pharmaceuticals and Abbott Laboratories.
