Yahoo Outsources Yahoo Shopping To PriceGrabber
Yahoo is outsourcing most of Yahoo Shopping, its comparison shopping site, to Los Angeles-based PriceGrabber, the firm told its developers Monday. Yahoo Shopping is a comparison shopping site which displays products and prices for different products, including consumer electronics, computer, and related items. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed by Yahoo. As part of the shift, Yahoo said it will no longer be providing an API to its shopping syndication services, as of March 11th.

Cynvenio Biosystems Gets Nearly $2M
Westlake Village-based Cynvenio Biosystems, a developer of high speed, bioseparation instruments for the life sciences market, has raised $1.96M in a Series B funding round, according to a regulatory filing by the firm today. Source of the new funding was not disclosed. Cyvenio is headed by Andre De Fusco, former President and CEO of Sabeus. The firm was co-founded by Frederick W. Twiistup Names Showoffs
Twiistup, the Los Angeles area technology conference run by Francisco Dao, has named its last two showoffs for the event later this month, Collecta and YourVersion. The firm said that the list of companies presenting at the event also include Geodelic, Lunch.com, Mingly, nsyght, NutshellMail, qlipso, Ranker, and Rippol. Goodreads Launches Book Quizzes
Santa Monica-based Goodreads, the online book community headed by Otis Chandler, has launched a new feature on the site around book quizzes. According to GoodReads, it has created a new section of the site which allows members of the site to take quizzes and compare scores with friends and other members. Goodreads is backed by True Ventures, as well as notable angels Michael Jones, James Currier and Stan Chudnovsky, and Michael Birch.

Aerovironment Selected By Nissan For Electric Vehicle Charging
Monrovia-based Aerovironment has been selected by auto maker Nissan to supply and install electric vehicle home charging stations, Nissan said today. According to Nissan North America, it has selected Aerovironment to supply home-charging stations and installation services for the firm's all electric Nissan LEAF, starting later this year. Advanced Cardiac Therapeutics Raises $5M
Laguna Beach-based Advanced Cardiac Therapeutics, which develops advanced cardiac ablation systems, said this morning that it has raised $5M in a Series B funding. According to the firm, the funding was led by NBGI Ventures. The firm said the new fund would go to fund commercialization of the firm's products in Europe. Advanced Cardiac Therapeutics develops devices for treatment of cardiac arrhythmias, including Atrial Fibrillation (AF).

Telscape Communications In Recap
Monrovia-based Telscape, a competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC) and wireless service provider serving the Hispanic market, has been recapitalized, according to investment bank Gemini Partners. Financial details of the recap were not disclosed by the firms. Telscape provides local, long distance, and international calling services to about 75,000 residential customers in Southern California and Nevada, and has over 180 employees.

CaseStack Expands In Chicago
Santa Monica-based CaseStack, a provider of outsourced warehousing and logistics for the grocery store market, announced today that the firm has expanded its Retailer Consolidation Program into Chicago. According to the firm, its program combines multiple shipments from different suppliers, to the same retailer distribution center, onto the same truck, reducing costs and increasing efficiency to all of the parties. Tandem Diabetes Nabs $31M
San Diego-based Tandem Diabetes, a developer of insulin pumps, has raised another $31.0M in funding, bring its current funding round to $52.3M, according to a regulatory filing by the firm lsat week. Source of the new funding was not disclosed by the company. Tandem has previously raised funding from Domain Associates, Second Technology Capital Investors, and TPG Ventures. $21.3M of the current funding round came in May.

Fonality Hits One Billion Cloud Calls
Culver City-based Fonality, a developer of Voice-over-IP, business PBX phone software, said late last week that it served its one-billionth cloud-based call recently, and had "record sales" during Q4. According to Fonality, it saw a 20 percent increase in Q4 2009 sales versus its prior year, with 28 percent more customers acquired in the quarter than the prior year. Zynx Health Ties With MEDITECH

Quidel Buys Diagnostic Hybrids
San Diego-based Quidel, a developer of diagnostic tests, said today that it is in a definitive agreement to acquired Diagnostic Hybrids, a manufacturer of in-vitro diagnostic assays, in a deal worth approximately $130M in cash. According to Quidel, the acquisition will broaden its current portfolio of diagnostic tests. Diagnostic Hybrids had revenues of $38M in 2008, and is based in Athens, Ohio.
