3ality Digital Wins BSkyB
Burbank-based 3ality Digital, a developer of live-action 3D camera and related technology, said Thursday that it has inked a deal with UK entertainment and communications firm BSkyB. According to the two companies, they are collaborating on the launch of 3D TV services in the UK and Ireland. The companies said that BSkyB will broadcast a 3D TV service across Sky's existing High Definition infrastructure, and use 3ality's camera rigs and image processors to capture "much" of the programming it pl (More info...)

Fisker Automotive In Deal With A123, Gets $23M
Irvine-based plug-in hybrid automobile developer Fisker Automotive has scored $23M in an investment, as part of a deal with lithium ion battery maker A123 Systems, the firms said Thursday morning. According to A123 Systems, it is in a battery supply agreement with Fisker, to supply battery systems for the Fisker Karma plug-in hybrid. Aliva Pharmaceuticals Raises $12.87M
Pasadena-based Aliva Pharmaceuticals, a firm developing animal systems for predicting human drug profiles, has raised $12.87M in funding, according to a recent regulatory filing by the firm. Source of the new funding was not disclosed. According to the filing, the firm sold Series A-1 and A-2 preferred shares to 11 investors in the round. No details on the funding have been disclosed, however, California Technology Ventures has the firm listed as a portfolio company.

TrueCar Links With HomeNet
Santa Monica-based TrueCar, the spinout of Zag Automotive which provides data on new car pricing, said today that it has partnered with automotive online marketing firm HomeNet Automotive. According to TrueCar, it will delier new car pricing data and information to HomeNet's Inventory Online Internet Marketing Suite. Quest Software Names Two Execs
Aliso Viejo-based Quest Software said earlier this week that it has named Carl Eberling as its VP and GM of virtualization and monitoring, and Steve Kahan as VP of Global Marketing. Eberling joins the firm from Kaiser Permanente, where he was Senior Vice President of IT. Eberling has also served at Verizon Wireless, Pacific Bell, Cellular One, and AirTouch Communications. Underground Elephant Opens Office in Santa Monica, Makes Hires
San Diego-based Underground Elephant, a startup focused on the CPA-based, performance based advertising market, said today that it has opened up an office in Santa Monica. The firm said it is looking to tap the talent in the Los Angeles are in the affiliate ad network industry. SAIC Acquires CloudShield Technologies
San Diego-based SAIC said today that it is in a definitive agreement to acquired CloudShield Technologies, a provider of information security products. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. CloudShield is a developer of deep packet inspection and network traffic analysis tools, specifically aimed at cybersecurity. Life Technologies Buys AcroMetrix
Carlsbad-based Life Technologies, a manufacturer of scientific equipment for the life sciences market, said Wednesday that it is in a definitive agreement to acquire AcroMetrix, a provider of molecular and serological diagnostic quality control products. Financial details of the acquisition were not announced. Life Technologies said the buy will expand its channel to reach molecular diagnostics customers. AcroMetrix was based in Benicia.

EdgeCast Expands In Singapore, Paris
Los Angeles-based EdgeCast, which operates a content delivery network (CDN) focused on rich media content, is announcing today that the firm is opening two new points of presence in Singapore and Paris. According to the firm, the two POPs are a major upgrade to its global network. The firm said it now has direct connections with more than 800 user networks around the world. Impact Radius Scores $6M
Santa Barbara-based Impact Radius, a developer of multi-channel, performance advertising technology, announced today that it has raised $6M in a venture funding round. The round was led by Redpoint Ventures. The firm said the funding went to development and private beta testing of its service, which is being applied to track and manage performance-based advertising across online, TV, radio, and print. As part of the funding, Redpoint's Greg Martin joins the company's board of directors.

Amonix Sees Job Increase From Federal Stimulus
Seal Beach-based Amonix, a manufacturer of solar panels, is reporting this morning that it expects to create 436 jobs from its receipt of a $9.5M stimulus funding awarded from the Federal Recovery Act. According to the firm, the jobs--to be created for manufacturing work at the firm's Nevada and Arizona locations--are due to the grant from the Advanced Energy Manufacturing Tax credit. Ixia Cuts 80 Employees
Calabasas-based Ixia, a developer of network testing tools and software, is reporting this morning that it has implemented a "cost reduction initiative" and cut 80 positions from the firm, in what it said was primarily an elimination of duplicate resources from the company's October acquisition of Agilent's N2X product line. According to Ixia, the cuts will save it approximately $11M in annual costs. Ixia said the cuts should be complete by June 30th, and that it will take a charge of $3 to $4M (More info...)
