Eucalyptus Links With Java Software Firm
Santa Barbara-based Eucalyptus, which develops open source, cloud computing management software, has linked with a developer of scaling software for the Java programming language, Terracotta, the firms said Tuesday. According to Terracotta and Eucalyptus, the two will provide tighter integration between their respective software, and also engage in joint sales and marketing. SOA Software Bolsters European Efforts
Los Angeles-based SOA Software, which develops service-oriented architecture (SOA) management software, said Tuesday that the firm is expanding its European operations. The firm said it has appointed Steve Pope as the firm's Vice President of Europe, and Simon Parker as Director Technology Europe, as part of an expansion in the region. 2tor Scores $20M
2tor, a New York-based firm with strong links to the University of Southern California and a local Los Angeles office, has raised $20M in a Series B funding round. The funding was led by Highland Capital, and also included Redpoint Ventures, Novak Biddle Venture Partners, and City Light Capital. 2tor develops online degree programs for companies, including the University of Southern California's Rossier School of Education. Mindbody Buys ClientMagic
San Luis Obispo-based MINDBODY, a developer of software for the salon industry, including spas and yoga studios, said Tuesday that it has acquired ClientMagic Software, a Folsom-based developer of scheduling and business management software for salons and spas. Allergan Buys Serica Technologies
Irvine-based Allergan has acquired Serica Technologies, a developer of biomaterials for the aesthetic and reconstructive surgery market, the firm said late last week. Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed. According to Serica, the acquisition did not include the firm's orthopaedic or veterinary products, which were spun out to new firm Alacer Technologies. eHow Rolls Android App
Santa Monica-based eHow, the question and answer site owned by Demand Media, said this week that it has rolled out a new, mobile application for the Android operating system. According to eHow, the application lets users search for, retrieve, and play videos from the firm's question and answer site. The firm said the new app is available for free.

IVT Gets $5.5M
Los Angeles-based IVT, the web casting firm run by Greg Pulier, has announced that it has raised $5.5M in a Series B funding. The firm said that the new funding for the company was led by Syncom Venture Partners, and also included investors Barshop Ventures, Monitor Ventures, and Tudor Ventures. Xencor Names Baracchini Business Head
Monrovia-based Xencor, a developer of antibody discovery technology, said this morning that it has named Edgardo Baracchini, Ph.D., as Chief Business Officer at the company. Baracchini joins the firm from Metabasis Therapeutics, where he was Senior Vice President of Business Development. Redpoint Closes $400M Fund
Redpoint Ventures, said late Monday evening that the firm has closed on Redpoint IV,a $400M, early stage venture capital fund specifically aimed at the social and mobile Internet, cloud computing, and clean technology. The firm highlighted its recent exits of LifeSize, WiChorus, Kazeon, and Irvine's Network in Motion in the announcement. The firm said it now has over $2B in management. Oversee.net, NameMedia Link On Domain Sales
Los Angeles-based Oversee.net, which operates a network of businesses focused on domain name monetization and advertising, said today that it has linked with NameMedia, a developer and marketer of premium domain names. Gumiyo Rolls Out Facebook App
Calabasas-based Gumiyo, a developer of mobile marketing applications for auto dealers and others, has released a new Facebook application. According to Gumiyo, the new, free, Facebook application called MyShowroom will allow retail automotive dealers to show their vehicle inventory on their Facebook pages. Fallbrook Wind Energy Spinout Gets $5M
A spinout of San Diego's Fallbrook Technologies, Viryd Technologies, announced today that it has raised $5M in an investment from a Chinese firm. Viryd, which is applying Fallbrook's continuous variable planetary transmissions to the wind turbine and energy market, said today that it raised funding from Ningbo Shentong Auto Decorations Ltd., a Chinese supplier of parts to the auto industry. Integrien Adds Lee Roberts To Board
Irvine-based Integrien, a developer of IT analytics annd management software, announced today that former FileNet CEO Lee Roberts is joining the firm's board of directors. Roberts is currently President and CEO of BlueWater Management Consulting, and was formerly General Manager and Vice President of Content Management at IBM, which acquired FileNet in 2006.
