THQ Deal With Syfy Takes de Blob to Screen
Agoura Hills-based video game developer THQ and television channel Syfy said Thursday they will be jointly creating new concepts and intellectual property based on THQ's video games. According to the firms, the first move by Syfy will be the use THQ's de Blob franchise as the foundation of a new, Syfy Kids effort, focused on the youth market of 2-17 year olds. OpenCandy Hails Success With TechSmith
San Diego-based OpenCandy, which develops technology to encourage software downloads by consumers, is hailing its success with TechSmith, a developer of screen capture and recording capture. The firm claimed Thursday that TechSmith has been seeing 88 percent lower CPAs than its traditional marketing using OpenCandy's product, which encourages users to download and install other software titles while they are waiting for the install and download of open source and freeware products. NexMed Gets $2.7M In Private Placement
San Diego-based NexMed, a clinical research organization focused on in vitro and in vivo pharmacology services, said earlier this week that it raised $2.3M in a private placement. Name of the investors were not disclosed. The firm said the funding came from two, accredited U.S. investors. NexMed recently acquired San Diego's Bio-Quant, and was previously headquartered in New Jersey, before relocating its headquarters to San Diego in January.
