Active Storage Rolls Upgraded iPhone App
Torrance-based Active Storage, a venture-backed developer of RAID products for Apple computers, said this week that it has released an upgraded iPhone application, which allows its customers to monitor its products directly from their phone. Among updates to the software are better connectivity and support options in the case of component failures in the firm's storage devices. j2 Global Reports Results
Los Angeles-based j2 Global Communications reported Thursday that it saw a small increase in the quarter, growing revenues by half a percentage point, to $60.2M versus $59.6M in Q4 of 2008. The publicly held firm earned $17.7M on those revenues, compared with $20.2M a year ago. The provider of Internet FAX and voice messaging services said it is expecting growth of 5%, with a range between 3% and 7%, for its fiscal 2010. Rubicon Projects Hires Investment Banker
Los Angeles-based Rubicon Project, the online ad optimization firm headed by Frank Addante, announced this morning that it has hired investment banker Allen & Company. Kingston Ships Giant 256GB Flash Drive
Fountain Valle-based memory manufacturer Kingston Digital said Thursday that it has shipped what it says is the first, 256GB USB Flash Drive in the U.S. According to Kingston, its new DataTraveler 310 is a follow on to a similar USB flash drive it shipped earlier this year to Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. The flash drive has a MSRP of $1,108.00. For comparison, the drive capacity is equivalent to up to 365 CDs, or 54 DVDs.

EON Reality Deploys In Palestine
Irvine-based EON Reality, a developer of 3D virtual reality tools, said Thursday that it has deployed its products at Birzeit University, in Palestine. The firm said it has deployed a "virtual reality theatre" at the school, which is being used to conduct research and development in such areas as architecture. The firm did not detail the financial impact of the deployment.
