Music Mastermind Raises $4.85M
Los Angeles-based Music Mastermind, a firm which develops music creation products, said this week that it has raised $4.85M in Series A funding. Source of the new funding was not disclosed. The firm said it was co-founded by Virgin Records America CEO Matt Serletic and Wall Street trader Bo Bazylevsky. The firm said the new funding will go towards product development.

Edgecore Gets $3.6M
Irvine-based Edgecore Networks, a spinout of SMC Networks, has sold $3.6M in stock, according to a regulatory filing by the firm today. The filing indicates the shares were part of a joint venture between Edgecore Networks, parent firm Accton Technology, and LG-Nortel Co. Ltd. LG-Nortel and Accton said in January that they would create Edgecore, with LG-Nortel owning 60 percent of the joint venture, and Accton owning the remaining 40 percent. Santa Barbara Loses Direct Flight To San Jose
The last direct flight from Santa Barbara to Silicon Valley, on a route run by SkyWest Airlines, is being discontinued, according to reports. SkyWest Airlines has informed Santa Barbara Airport officials that it plans to discontinue direct flights to San Jose in June, due to lack of demand. The news was first reported by local Santa Barbara publication the Daily Sound. Novatel Test WiMAX MiFi Prototype, Links with Qualcomm
San Diego-based Novatel Wireless, a developer of wireless data cards, said today that it has completed over the air testing of a new, 4G-WiMAX enabled MiFi mobile hotspot product. The firm said that the prototype uses Beceem's 4G WiMax chips, and showed 18Mbps speeds with a theoretical capacity of 30Mbps downlink and 10Mbps uplink capability. Trius Therapeutics Sets IPO Pricing Range
San Diego-based Trius Therapeutics, which is looking to IPO on the Nasdaq as TSRX, indicated in a filing today that it is looking to price its IPO at between $12.00 and $14.00 per share. The firm's IPO is being underwritten by Credit Suisse, Piper Jaffray, Canaccord Adams, and JMP Securities. Trius is focused on discovery, development, and commercialization of antibiotics. Trius is venture backed by Sofinnova venture Partners, InterWest, Versant Venture Capital.

LuxuryLink Launches
Los Angeles-based LuxuryLink said today that it has launched a new, sister site aimed at family travelers. The firm said its new site, will feature family friendly resorts and hotels. LuxuryLink said the new web site has over 100 properties and 200 family travel packages featured. LuxuryLink is venture backed by El Dorado Ventures and San Francisco Equity Partners, and is headed by Drew Marich--the previous GM of eBay's site.
