Hulu Loses Daily Show, Colbert Report
Los Angeles-based streaming media site Hulu.com said Tuesday afternoon that two of the firm's most popular shows, The Daily Show, and The Colbert Report, are being pulled from the site. According to Hulu, Comedy Central has decided to rotate the shows off the service, as of 11:59 p.m. PST on Tuesday, March 9th. Hulu said the shows will continue to be available on TheDailyShow.com and ColbertNation.com. Spark Networks Gets Buyout Offer
Beverly Hills-based Spark Networks, which runs the JDate.com, Spark.com, BlackSingles.com, and ChristianMingle.com dating sites, said Tuesday afternoon that the firm is considering a buyout offer from Great Hills Partners II, LP, one of the firm's major investors. Perfect Market Gets $6.0M
Pasadena-based Perfect Market, a provider of software which enables monetization of long tail content of publishers such as newspapers, has raised $6.0M in a funding round, according to a recent regulatory filing by the firm. No details on the funding have been announced by the company. According to the filing, funding included new backer Mayfield Fund, along with prior investors Idealab, Rustic Canyon Partners, and Trinity Ventures and others. LiveOffice Looks To Archive Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter
Torrance-based LiveOffice, a provider of email archiving services, announced today that the firm is releasing a new product specifically aimed at archiving social media sites, including LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter. The firm said the new LiveOffice Social Archive software is can capture and retain content from any public web site. Emulex Boosts IBM Offerings
Costa Mesa-based Emulex has deepened its ties with IBM, saying today that it is providing its OneConnect network adapters into five of IBM's enterprise-class and high volume servers. Emulex said its adapter will be offered by IBM on its System x3650 M3, x3550 M3, x3850 X5, x3950 X5 and x3690 X5; and three IBM BladeCenter server platforms, including the HS22, HS22V and HX5. Active Storage Rolls Out 32TB Mac Storage Product
Torrance-based Active Storage, a venture backed developer of storage products for the Apple market, announced a new, 32TB RAID product this morning. According to Active Storage, the new 3U product is specifically targeted at media production and Apple professionals, and includes an iPhone monitoring app and native Mac OS X storage management software. Teledyne Invests In Optical Alchemy
Thousand Oaks-based Teledyne Technologies announced today that it has acquired a minority interest in Optical Alchemy, a Nashua, New Hampshire-based designer and manufacturer of ultra-light electro optical gimbal systems. Sometrics Powers Virtual Currency Efforts
Los Angeles-based Sometrics, the virtual currency startup headed by Ian Swanson, released some user and traffic numbers this morning, saying that it has now provided more than 1 trillion virtual currency credits to game users. The firm also said it has connected its to more than 100 million game user accounts. Sorenson Media Rolls API
San Diego-based Sorenson Media, which develops video encoding software and a related content delivery network, said today that it has released a new application programming interface (API). According to Sorenson Media, the new Sorenson 360 API helps developers to integrate video into their web sites. The new REST API enables such features as uploading of user-generated content and browser-side video encoding.
