ReachLocal's Buy Of SMB:LIVE Worth $8.8M
Woodland Hills-based ReachLocal's acquisition of digital presence and reputation management firm SMB:LIVE was worth $8.8M, in a combination of cash and stock. The number had actually been disclosed through an update to the firm's S-1, although the firm did not disclose the numbers in its announcement of the deal. According to ReachLocal, it paid $2.8M in cash for SMB:LIVE, assumed $0.8M in liabities, and will pay the balance -- up to $5.7M -- on achievement of certain milestones tied to employee (More info...)

Evolver Wins Reallusion
Aliso Viejo-based Evolver, the online tool for creating avatars for social web sites created by Darwin Dimensions, has scored a win with 3D cinema tool provider Reallusion. According to Reallusion, it has licensed Evolver for its iClone 4 animation tool. Reallusion said the license will allow its users to create fully animated avatars for its movie creation tool. Financial details of the license were not disclosed. Evolver is headed by Brian Nilles, and is venture backed by Rho Ventures.

Slacker Links With The Source
San Diego-based personalized Internet radio service Slacker announced yesterday that it has linked with The Source Magazine, to launch an online, Hip-Hop radio station. Slacker said it would power The Source Digital Radio, a hip-hop station linked with The Source's print magazine and online web site. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. Overland Storage Hires BlueArc, Data Robotics Founder
San Diego-based Overland Storage said earlier this week that it has hired Dr. Geoff Barrall as its new Chief Technology Officer and Vice President of Engineering. Barrall was most recently CEO of Data Robotics, and also was founder of BlueArc. Barrall also serves on the board of Nexsan, and has served on the board of Tacit Networks, the advisory boards of Data Domain, and NeoPath. Barrall left Data Robotics in December for unspecified reasons, after the firm installed a new CEO.
