LookTel Looks To Help The Blind With Mobile App
Santa Monica-based IPPLEX/iVisit, a developer of mobile phone software, said this week that it has launched Looktel a smart phone application which automatically scans and recognizes common household objects and provides other assistance to the visually impaired. Paragon Software Wins Iomega
Irvine-based Paragon Software Group said Tuesday that the firm has been selected by Iomega, to provide the firm with its Universal File System Drive (USFD) technology. Paragon's UFSD technology is used to allow Iomega's iConnect Wireless Data Station to support Windows and Mac formatted external hard drives, regardless of file format of those drives. Paragon's software supports NTFS, HFS+, and a variety of other various file formats across multiple operating systems.

OptionEase Signs Boomi
San Juan Capistrano-based OptionEase, which develops software-as-a-service applications for stock options and fair market value accounting, said today that it has signed Boomi, a developer of cloud integration software, as a customer. Financial terms of the win were not disclosed. OptionEase said that Booomi is using the firm to manage FAS123(R) compliance for the firm. Los Angeles Tops Green Buildings List
Los Angeles is ranked number one on a just-released list of the Top 25 cities with the most ENERGY STAR labeled buildings, according to the EPA. According to the EPA's list, Los Angeles was ranked number one, with 293 buildings with a total floorspace of 76 million square feet, saving around $93.9 million in energy costs--or around 34,800 homes worth of electric power. Mobilecause Launches iPhone App
Los Angeles-based Mobilecause, a mobile fundraising startup, said today that it has launched a new iPhone application for charities. According to Mobilecause, the new application, uGive, allows charities to get the word out and solicit financial and social media support for their groups. The firm said the free application allows users to get the latest information about charities, see their mobile giving campaigns and videos, and also donate money to those groups. Verimatrix Wins New Zealand Telecom Firm
San Diego-based Verimatrix, a developer of DRM software used in IPTV and set top boxes, said today that it has added New Zealand telecom TelstraClear Ltd. as a customer. Verimatrix said that TelstraClear will be using its Video Content Authority System (VCAS) for DVB product, to secure its pay TV services. Financial impact of the win was not disclosed. Verimatrix said that TelstraClear is the second-largest full service telecommunications company in New Zealand.

Clearwire Targets LA For 4G Network
Clearwire, which is deploying a WiMax-based, 4G wireless network nationwide, said today that it has added Los Angeles--along with another six markets--to its list of cities it will provide its mobile broadband service into. Clearwire said it would roll out coverage sometime this year in Los Angeles, although the firm did not provide details on exact coverage in the city. The Trade Desk Raises $2.5M
Ventura-based The Trade Desk, a new online Internet advertising exchange firm headed by AdECN co-founder Jeff Green, has raised $2.5M in a venture funding round. The funding came from the Founders Collective and IA Ventures, led by Roger Ehrenberg, as well as strategic investors Jerry Neumann (Omnicom), and Josh Styleman (Reprise Media). RingRevenue Names EVP Sales
Santa Barbara-based RingRevenue, the pay-per-call advertising firm headed by Jason Spievak, announced today that it has named Monty Hudson as the firm's Executive Vice President of Sales. Hudson joins the firm from AudienceScience, where he was VP of Sales and Media. Hudson has also previously served at Fastclick and ValueClick. Inphi Rolls 40Gbps Component
Westlake Village-based Inphi Corp, a developer of high speed analog semiconductors, said today that it has rolled out a new, 40 Gbps component for the optical market. The firm said its 4336TA Transimpedence Amplifier (TIA) is aimed at customers designing, producing, and installing 40 Gbps serial components and equipment. Pasadena-based ABetterStay.com, the branded vacation rental booking site run by LeisureLink, and San Diego-based SaveOnResorts.com, which sells vacation packages online, are announcing this morning that they have partnered. The firms said that SaveOnResorts.com has joined ABetterStay.com's affiliate program, and will offer ABetterStay.com's properties on its site. Financial details of the partnership were not disclosed.
