Boingo Expands In Japan
Los Angeles-based Boingo Wireless announced today that it has added more than 1,600 hotspots in Japan, as part of a deal with NTT Communications. Details on the deal with NTT were not announced, however, Boingo said the addition of NTT's network brings its total to over 6,500 hotspots in Japan. Boingo operates a global network of wireless access points, all accessible via the firm's single sign in and common login software. AltheaDx Raises $6M
San Diego-based AltheaDx, a developer of molecular diagnostics products, has raised $6M in a Series A round, the firm revealed today. The firm said the round was led by Telegraph Hill Partners. AltheaDx is focused on developing diagnostic tests for the oncology market.

TweetPhoto Gets $2.6M
San Diego-based TweetPhoto, an online site which allows users to share photos through Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, FourSquare, and other social networking sites, said today that it has raised $2.6M in a Series A funding round. The round was led by Canaan Partners and also included Anthem Venture Partners and un-named angels. According to the firm, the new funding will go to introduce new products and to expand its developer relations program. TweetPhoto is headed by Sean Callaham.

USC Creates Diploma in Innovation
The University of Southern California is announcing today that it has rolled out a new program specifically at helping its Ph.D. students better translate their ideas into tangible benefits to society. According to the school, it has created a new Ph.D. Diploma in Innovation, which is designed to complement Ph.D. students training with practical skills and "creative perspectives" to see how their academic expertise intersects with societal needs. FreeConference Rolls Facebook App
Glendale-based FreeConference.com, which operates a free conference calling service, said today that it has launched its own Facebook application, which allows users to schedule conferences and invite friends. According to the firm, the new application is geared at allowing anyone--not just business users--to use its free audio conferencing services. Fallbrook Technologies Ties With Chinese Management Consulting Firm
San Diego-based Fallbrook Technologies, a developer of transmissions for the electrical vehicle, bicycle, and other markets, reported today that it has linked with Chinese consulting firm ASL Management Consulting Company. Santa Monica-based electric car firm CODA Automotive said today that it has named K. Forrest Beanum as its Vice President of Public Affairs & Communications.
