SnapNames VP Responds To Oversee Lawsuit
The former vice president behind the huge, shill bidding scandal at Oversee.net's SnapNames unit has responded to Oversee.net's lawsuit, saying that--although his actions were "improper"--he only made the bids to purchase website domains he thought had "legitimate value" and to provide "financial security" for himself. Darwin Dimensions Ties With 3D Software Firm
Aliso Viejo-based Darwin Dimensions, developer of the Evolver web-based tool for building 3D avatars, said this week that it has linked with Dassault Systemes and its 3DVIA software. The firm said it is powering the 3DVIA website, powering a feature which allows users to create their own, 3D character models. Life Technologies Buys Majority Stake In Geneart
Carlsbad-based Life Technologies announced this morning that it has acquired a majority stake in Geneart AG, a synthetic biology company. The firm said it now owns approximately 74 percent of Geneart, after purchasing approximately 554,000 shares of Geneart common stock at EUR13.75 per share in a tender offer, or approximately $9.4M US. Life had purchase approximately 2.6 million shares of Geneart at EUR11.59 per share in early April, paying approximately $37M US for 59 percent of the firm. Life (More info...)

GenMark Chops IPO Offering Price
Pasadena-based Genmark Diagnostics, a maker of molecular diagnostics equipment, lowered its initial public offering price to between $6.00 and $7.00 per share yesterday, down from an earlier anticipated initial public offering price of between $8.00 and $10.00 per share, according to a regulatory filing by the firm yesterday. The firm is looking to list on the NASDAQ Global Market as GNMK. GenMark's IPO is being underwritten by Piper Jaffray, William Blair & Company and ThinkEquity LLC.

Vizio Gets Favorable Ruling In Patent Dispute
Irvine-based Vizio, a maker of HDTV and other consumer electronics, reported late Thursday that the firm has received a favorable ruling from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C. The firm said that the ruling, which covers a patent dispute with Funai Electric Co., found that certain "work-around" versions of Vizio's digital television products do not infringe upon a patent held by Funai Electri Co., Ltd.
