Chumby Ups Series B To $8.7M
San Diego-based Chumby, the maker of the Internet-connected, Linux-based clock radio, has upped its Series B funding to $8.78M, according to a regulatory filing from the firm this week. According to the filing, the firm is in the midst of raising up to $9.786M in the round. Chumby develops a Wi-Fi enabled, Internet device which acts both as a clock as well as a connection into internet services like Weather, news, and more. RFaxis Adds Former RFMD Exec As Advisor
Irvine-based RFaxis, the developer of fabless semiconductors headed by Mike Neshat, said Tuesday that it has added Dr. David L. Lyon, former Vice President and Business General Manager of RF Micro Devices, as an advisor to the firm. Lyon is currently founder and CEo of consulting firm Sage Strategies. Giiv Confirms $3.35M Fundraising
Los Angeles-based Giiv, which operates a mobile gifting service, has confirmed its recent $3.35M funding round, saying that the funding came from Google CEO Eric Schmidt, Saban Ventures, Founder Collective, and SK Telecom Ventures. The firm allows its users to text gift certificates to others. Giiv.com is headed by Michelle Crames. The round had been revealed in a regulatory filing in May.

Feds Drop Appeal In Broadcom Stock Option Cases
The long running saga of illegal stock options backdating charges against Henry Samueli and Henry Nicholas, the co-founders of Broadcom, have come to a close. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office in Los Angeles late Friday evening, the office has dropped the cases, and is no longer looking to appeal the dismissal of charges against the two, who had been charged with backdating of stock options at Broadcom. Trapster Adds More Users
San Diego-based Trapster, a developer of an application for reporting and sharing speed trap locations, said today that it has reached the six million user mark. The firm said it is, on average, adding 20,000 new users a day. Trapster develops mobile applications which alert users to red light cameras and speed traps. The firm had claimed last month that it had just reached 5 million users of the service.

Hello Music Links With PlayNetwork
Los Angeles-based Hello Music, the online music firm funded by KVG Partners and founded by Wilshire Media Group, Zack Zalon and Brendon Cassidy, said today that it has signed a partnership with PlayNetwork, a provider of music for the retail, hospitality, health and fitness, banking markets. According to Hello Music, the two will collaborate to find opportunities for Hello Music's artists to gain distribution through Playnetworks' 65,000 business subscriber locations. Altura Medical Scores $20M
San Clemente-based Altura Medical announced this morning that it has raised $20M in a Series A financing round. The firm said the funding was led by New Leaf Venture Partners, and also included Advanced Technology Ventures and SV Life Sciences. Altura Medical is developing medical devices for the treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms. Altura is headed by George Wallace.

Awareness Technologies Gets $6.5M
Los Angeles-based Awareness Technologies, a developer of security software, has raised $6.5M in a funding round. The round was announced last month, and closed in April. The firm said that the funding came from former Perimeter eSecurity CEO Brad Miller and First New England Capital.

BUZZMEDIA Adds Six Music Sites
Hollywood-based BUZZMEDIA, a venture-backed publisher of online entertainment content, said today that it has added six new web properties. The firm said it has added PureVolume, PopMatters, Gorilla vs. Bear, The Hype Machine, Concrete Loop and RCRD LBL to the list of its web music properties. Financial details of the deals were not disclosed. BUZZMEDIA said that the six sites have a total of over five million fans every month.

Billshrink's Pham Lands At Trinity Ventures
Billshrink CEO Peter Pham, who is well known in Southern California for his efforts to organize and connect local entrepreneurs, has left his firm and become an Entrepreneur-In-Residence at Trinity Ventures, one of Billshrink's backers, Pham said last week in a blog post. Mindspeed Wins Wistron
Newport Beach-based Mindspeed Technologies reported today that one of its products has been selected by Wistron Corporation, a provider of enterprise storage products. According to Mindspeed, Wistron is using its Mindspeed M21453 12-port serial attached SCSI (SAS) signal conditioner as part of its product. Financial impact of the design win was not disclosed.
