MySpace, Ad.ly Link On In-Stream Advertising
Los Angeles-based MySpace and startup Ad.ly, also based in LA, said today that they have linked in an in-stream advertising deal. According to MySpace, it will use Ad.ly to enable content creators to reach fans in the MySpace stream. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The deal comes shortly after Twitter said it would not be allowing other companies to automatically insert ads into its service, which looked to most direclty impact Ad.ly. Predixion Software Raises $800K
Aliso Viejo-based Predixion Software, a new startup headed by Simon Arkell, has raised $800,000 as part of an ongoing $3.0M funding round, according to a regulatory filing from the firm this week. No details on the funding have been announced. Predixion--which is still in stealth mode--is developing software around predictive, behavioral analytics and data mining. Slacker Adds iPhone Caching
San Diego-based music streaming startup Slacker, said today that it has rolled out a new version of its iPhone app, adding caching of music streamed from the service. According to the firm, the new version of its Slacker Radio app allows users to cache radio stations, allowing individual songs from stations to be played off-line. The firm said the upgraded app will allow caching of stations for up to 14 days. The new caching of music requires the firm's Slacker Radio Plus service, which costs $3 (More info...)

HauteLook Snags $31M For Luxury Private Sales Site
Los Angeles-based HauteLook, an online private sales site backed by Insight Venture Partners, has raised $31M in a Series C funding round, the firm said today. The round also came from Insight. HauteLook said the funding will go to expand the company. HauteLook was advised by J.P. Morgan Securities in the deal. Arena Pharmaceuticals Raises $35.5M In PIPE
San Diego-based Arena Pharmaceuticals, a firm developing biopharmaceuticals, including a compound targeted at weight loss and weight management, said today that it is raising $35.5M in an equity investment from Deerfield Management. Publicly held Arena said the funding will go towards helping it get FDA approval of its lead compound, lorcaserin. Arena said that Deerfield will pay $3.23 per share for 11 million shares of its common stock, which is traded on the NASDAQ as ARNA.

WOWIO Gets Funding, Buys WEvolt
Los Angeles-based WOWIO said this morning that it has raised $1.7M in a funding round, and acquired online social networking site WEvolt, focused on comic books and creative content. WOWIO said the funding was led by CEO Brian Altounian. WEvolt operates an online site which allows creators of comic strips and graphic novels to upload and monetize their content.
