Vitesse Names Marketing VP
Camarillo-based Vitesse Semiconductor announced Wednesday that it has named Steve M. Perna as the firm's new VP of Product Marketing. Perna joins the firm from Wiquest Communications, and has also served at PMC-Sierra and Texas Instruments. The firm said that Perna is now responsible for execution of the firm's market strategy for all of its product lines. Vitesse develops semiconductors for the carrier and enterprise networking market.

Yardi Buys VisualHOMES
Santa Barbara-based Yardi Systems said Wednesday that it has acquired VisualHOMES, a developer of software for managing public, low-income housing. Financial terms of the buy were not disclosed. Yardi already provides a software product, Yardi Voyager PHA, used for managing subsidized housing. VisualHOMES is based in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Maverick Angels Founder John Dilts Dies
John Dilts, founder of angel group the Maverick Angels and co-founder of the BioTech Forum, a group promoting biotechnology industry development in Ventura County, has died. No details of Dilts' death was given, however, the Maverick Angels said that Dilts passed away on the morning of August 2nd. The group said that Dilts viewing is Thursday. Active Network In Deal With Australian Firm
San Diego-based Active Network, which operates online sports and events registration websites, said this morning that it inked a deal with Australian event organizer USM Events. The two firms said that Active Network will streamline USM EVENTS online technology and registration process. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. ValueClick Buys Investopedia
Westlake Village-based ValueClick announced this morning that it has acquired Investopedia.com, an online site focused on financial information and education. The deal was worth $42M in cash. Investopedia was previously owned by Forbes, Inc. According to ValueClick, it expects Investopedia to generate approximately $10M in revenue and $5M in adjusted EBITDA. Interview with Paul Gloger, Rockoco
Last week, Pasadena-based Rockoco announced that it had raised $1.5M in funding from the Pasadena Angels, for its technology which applies semiconductor processing to diamonds to create more brilliant and super-polished stones. It turns out that the firm--a spinout of Caltech--came out of the exact same lab as Helixis, the molecular diagnostics firm acquired for a healthy $105M by Illumina last week. BlackLine Trumpets Training
Calabasas-based BlackLine Systems, the developer of financial close software headed by Therese Tucker, is trumpeting its certification course this week, saying that it recently certified 22 consultants from KPMG as part of its professional services courses. BlackLine said it provided the certification to those consultants in Atlanta as a part of KPMG's efforts to assist its clients. Tucker is the former CTO of SunGard Treasure Systems.

CALIENT Technologies Names Two To Board
Santa Barbara-based CALIENT Technologies said Tuesday that it has appointed two new members to its board of directors. The firm, which develops MEMs-based optical switching technology, said it has added Mike CHandler and Edgar Masri to its board. Chandler was formerly president of General Dynamics Information Technology, and also served with the U.S. Navy. Concerro Names COO
San Diego-based Concerro, a developer of hospital workforce management software, said Tuesday that it has named Cindy Watson as Chief Operating Officer of the firm. Watson was most recently Vice President of Client Services for the firm. Watson has also served at AllianceCare and InteliStaf Healthcare. The company said that Watson will have oversight of its sales, marketing, customer support, investor relations, and other core functions.
