Report: Big M&A Deals Up in Q2
A new report from Ernst & Young released Thursday found that big merger and acquisition deals were up in Q2. According to the report, there were seven transactions valued at more than $1B, compared with only two deals over $1B in Q1. also found that overall deal value increased 32 percent year over year, to $30.8 billion. In terms of deal count, there were 628 deals, roughly the same as Q1.

Image Metrics Buys FacePro
Santa Monica-based Image Metrics, a developer of facial animation software, said Thursday that it has acquired FacePro, a developer of lip sync technology used by art directors. Financial terms of the buy were not disclosed. FacePro develops technology which analyzes audio information to automatically drive facial animation. St. Bernard Software Buys Red Condor
San Diego-based St. Bernard Software, a developer of backup software and related products, announced Wednesday that it has acquired substantially all of the assets of Red Condor, a provider of email security products. The deal was worth around $845,000, and was made up of 2,416,272 restricted shares of St. Bernard's restricted common stock. St. Bernard said it has offered employment to Red Condor's 34 employees. AECOM Acquires Davis Langdon For $324M
Los Angeles-based AECOM Technology Corporation, which provides technical and management services and other professional consulting to the government and others, said today that it has acquired David Langdon, a project management firm, in a deal worth $324M. David Langdon serves clients in Africa, Australia and New Zealand, Europe, the Middle East and the United States, and has 2,800 employees.

DTS Partners With ONKYO On PC Products
Calabasas-based DTS, which develops surround sound and other audio technology, announced this morning that it hass partnered with ONKYO to include its technology in a desktop PC system. DTS said that ONKYO will include DTS audio technology in its all-in-one desktop PC systems. Financial terms of the deal between the firms was not disclosed.

Life Technologies, UCSD Tie On Genomic Analysis Effort
Carslbad-based Life Technologies, a developer of genomic analysis technology, and the University of California at San Diego's Moores Cancer Center, said this morning that the two are collaborating on a research effort. According to the two, they will study chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), a cancer of white blood cells, using Life's SOLID 4 genomic analysis technology.
