Calacanis Invests $25K In StorkBrokers
Jason Calacanis, the high profile CEO of Mahalo, and angel investor, has made an investment in Georgia-based StorkBrokers, an online community site focused on new mothers and fathers. The investment was worth $25,000, and Calacanis has joined the firm's board. EON Reality, NEC Target Classrooms
Irvine-based EON Reality, a developer of interactive 3D software, said Wednesday afternoon that it has teamed up with NEC Display Solutions to sell a product to schools for virtual learning and training. Smith Micro Ships Android File Delivery App
Aliso Viejo-based Smith Micro said this week that it has released a version of its cloud-based file delivery app, SendStuffNow, on Android. According to the firm, the app allows users to send files that are too large to send via email, or which need to be secured better. The app also supports uploading and sharing of photos and videos from Android devices. The app was already available for the iPhone and iPad. Pricing on the new app was not announced.

Anametrix Gets Funding, Adds Advisors
San Diego-based Anametrix, a developer of cloud-based business analytics software, said today that it has received new funding and added a slate of well known advisors. Details on the new private investment was not disclosed. According to Anametrix, it has added Michael Roberston, Fred Bourgeois, Neil Senturia, Eric Otterson, Gavin Mandelbaum and Laurent Asscher to its advisory board. Total Immersion Powers Eco-Awareness Effort
Los Angeles-based Total Immersion, a developer of augmented reality software which superimposes computer generated graphics onto live webcam video, said today that it is powering an eco-awareness program in Los Angeles. According to the company, it has linked with two environmental organizations to power a augmented reality kiosk at the SEA Lab in Redondo Beach. Mindspeed Gets Design Win At PacketFront
Newport Beach-based semiconductor maker Mindspeed Technologies said today that the firm's Comcerto 1000 packet processor has been designed into a new product from PacketFront Systems AB. Mindspeed said the processor will be used in PacketFront's DRG 7000 customer premises equipment (CPE), which provides Layer 2 and Layer 3 switched and a residential firewall. Expected shipment volumes were not announced, nor were any financial details of the win.

Maxwell Technologies Claims Strong Growth In Ultracapacitors
San Diego-based Maxwell Technologies, a developer of energy storage and other products, is claiming this morning that it is seeing "strong demand" for the firm's ultracapacitor-based energy storage products. The firm said it has seen sales of its ultracapacitor products for wind energy applications in the first three quarter of 2010 running more than 40 percent ahead of sales in the same period last year. WD Shuffles COO, CFO
Lake Forest-based hard drive maker Western Digital announced Tuesday that it has named Tim Leyden as Chief Operating Officer of the firm, and Wolfgang Nickl named Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at the company. Leyden has been at WD for more than 20 years, and was most recently EVP and CFO of the firm. Taking his place as CFO, the company said Nickl has been the firm's VP of Finance since October of 2005.
