Edison Rolls Online Electric Vehicle Cost Estimator
Southern California Edison, the electric utility which serves a significant chunk of the Southern California, is ramping up its preparation for electric vehicle deployment, saying today that it has launched a new online tool to help its customers estimate the cost of charging their plug-in electric vehicle. Magento Launches iPhone Storefront Software
Los Angeles-based Magento, the developer of e-commerce software headed by Roy Rubin, said Wednesday that it has launched an iPhone version of its product. The firm said it has launched Magento Mobile, which allows retailers and developers to create their own, customized and branded iPhone app storefronts. Soliant Installs In Portugal
Monrovia-based Soliant Energy, a developer of concentrating photovoltaic solar energy systems, announced today that it has completed its first installation in Portugal. CoreObjects Acquired By Indian Firm
Los Angeles-based CoreObjects Software, a provider of software development to both startups and other firms, has been acquired. According to Symphony Service Corp., a provider of software product engineering services based in Bangalore, India, it has acquired CoreObjects and its delivery centers in Bangalore and Pune, India. Neudesic Powers Rackspace Development Tool
Irvine-based Neudesic, a provider of systems integration and development for Microsoft environments, is behind the release today of a Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 plug-in by Rackspace. According to Rackspace, it has released a tool which directly plugs into Microsoft's development suite, Microsoft Visual Studio 2010, giving developers direct access to control of cloud servers at the hosting provider. Valeant Sees Deeper Job Cuts
Aliso Viejo-based Valeant Pharmaceuticals is planning deeper cuts, after the firm's merger with Biovail, according to an email released by the firm via a regulatory filing Tuesday. According to Valeant, it now expects to cut 25 percent of its headcount, up from just 20 percent when the deal was announced in June. Valeant said, in that email to employees, that the cuts are part of an effort to apply a low margin operating mindset to a high margin business.

NEXUS Completes REMP Sample Management Buy
Poway-based NEXUS Biosystems, a developer of automated sample management systems for the pharmaceuticals and biotech industry, said today that it has completed its acquisition of REMP AG of Switzerland, a developer of sample management systems. Financial terms of the acquisition were not announced. NExUS had said on July 15th that it would be acquiring REMP, which was part of the Tecan Group. REMP AG is based in Switzerland.

Xirrus: Second Only To Cisco In Enterprise Access Points
Thousand Oaks-basedXirrus, the developer of wireless switching hardware and enterprise Wi-Fi equipment, is bragging this morning that it ranks second to Cisco Systems, in enterprise wireless hardware revenue. Citing the 2Q'10 Dell'Oro Group Wireless LAN report, the firm said that only Cisco beats the firm in terms of revenues in the enterprise access point market. Permlight Gets Funding
Tustin-based Permlight, a developer of LED-based lighting systems, announced today that it has scored a new round of financing. Source and size of the funding was not disclosed. According to Permlight, the new funding will go towards expanding and strengthening the firm's financial position, and for use in executing its strategic plans. Permlight designs LED light engines used in illuminated signs. The firm is headed by Phil Frey.

Row 44 Raises $37M
Westlake Village-based Row 44, the developer of wireless broadband systems for the commercial aviation industry, is expected to announced today that it has raised another $37M in funding. Source of the funding was not announced. Row 44 so far has a contract with Southwest Airlines to provide Wi-Fi in its fleet, and currently uses satellite connections for its network. Occam Deploys In Wisconsin
Santa Barbara-based Occam Networks, a provider of broadband telephone equipment for rural telecommunications firms, reports today that it has partnered with Marquette-Adams Telephone Cooperative, based in central Wisconsin, for a $20M, stimulus fiber project. Los Angeles-based J2 Global, the electronic fax provider, said today that its eFax brand has added South Korea to its list of supported countries. The firm said it now has phone numbers available in the cit of Seoul, bringing its network to 49 countries and over 4,100 cities. j2 offers up Internet-based electronics FAX services.
