Demand Media Updates eHow
Los Angeles-based Demand Media, the online media site run by Richard Rosenblatt, said Friday that it has updated its eHow web site, the firm's questions and answers site. Demand said that it has created a "crisp, clean" design update, and also added new content channels, a new video series, and social tools to the site. Apace Rolls Out Media Serving Device
Orange-based Apace Systems, a developer of media storage systems focused on the broadcast market, said this morning that it has rolled out a new product targeted at serving up video for business organizations. The firm said its new package allows companies, media, government, and education facility to serve up a "private YouTube" for their business use. Cocodot Links With DKNY
Hollywood-based Cocodot, the online invitations site run by former MySpace exec Shawn Gold, said this week that it has partnered with DKNY, for a collection of fashion cards and invites. The site, which offers professionally designed online invitations and greeting cards, said the new DKNY collection went live yesterday, as part of New York Fashion Week. Broadcom Links With Philips On Gesture Controls
Irvine-based Broadcom yesterday said that it has linked with Philips Home Control on an effort to develop gesture-based remote controls. According to Broadcom, its Bluetooth technology is being used by Philips Home Control to enable remote controls which can control home entertainment with things like hand waves, finger swipes, or movements of a remote control. Ad.ly Co-Founders New Startup: Namesake
Two of the co-founders of Adly, Dan Gould and Brian Norgard, are involved with a stealth mode startup called Namesake, based in Santa Monica. Existence of the new startup has been circulating among Los Angeles entrepreneurs for the last month or so, but only recently reported elsewhere. DTS In Deal With Orange
Calabasas-based DTS, the developer of surround sound audio technology, reported yesterday that it has signed an agreement wih Orange, where Orange will use its DTS technology in its IPTV service. Financial details of the licensing agreement were not disclosed.

Quantum Technologies Gets Delisting Notice
Irvine-based Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies, a developer of renewable energy, energy storage, and hybrid electric drive systems for the electric car industry, said late Thursday that it has received a delisting notice from the Nasdaq. Newport Adds Khaykin To Board
Irvine-based Newport Corporation, a supplier of optical components, lasers, filters, scientific instruments, and other products, said Thursday that it has added Oleg Khaykin to its board of directors.
