WaveStream Acquired By Gilat
San Dimas-based Wavestream, a venture backed provider of high power solid state amplifiers, has been acquired for approximately $130M by Gilat Satellite Networks Ltd., an Israeli firm in the satellite broadband communications product market. Gilat said Wednesday that it is in a definitive agreement to acquire Wavestream in an all-cash deal, to further enhance its market position in the government sector. DailyD Gets $5.0M
Santa Monica-based DailyD, an online operator of a daily, local deals site, has raised $5.0M in a funding round, according to a regulatory filing by the firm. DailyD is the latest startup of LowerMyBills founder Matt Coffin; the firm also lists Business.com's Jake Winebaum as a board member of the firm. Source of the new funding was not disclosed, however, Jim Simons, a venture capitalist at Split Rock Partners, is listed as a board member of the firm. Predixion Software Raises $5M
Aliso Viejo-based Predixion Software, the cloud-based developer of business analytics software headed by Simon Arkell, said today that it has raised $5M in a Series A financing round. The round was led by DFJ Frontier, and also included Miramar Venture Partners and Palomar Ventures. Predixion develops a self-service, cloud based business analytics service. Platinum Equity Buys Ulticom
Los Angeles-based private equity firm Platinum Equity is acquiring a New Jersey provider of telecommunications products, Ulticom Inc., in a $90M deal, Ulticom said late Tuesday evening. According to Ulticom, it is in a definitive merger agreement with affiliates of Platinum Equity, which will take Ulticom private. the deal is worth $2.33 per share in cash, after a special dividend of $5.74 per share in cash. ResumeBucket Finds Managers, Sales Top Resume Searches
Los Angeles-based ResumeBucket, the online resume site headed by Josh Stomel, reported today that management and sales are the highest typed keywords of recruiters searching the site. TouchCommerce Expands Exec Team
Agoura Hills-based TouchCommerce, a provider of online sales and sales conversion products and services, said today that it has appointed three in a major executive expansion. According to TouchCommerce, it has named Tony Rodriguez as its Chief Financial Office, Steve Dille as its Senior Vice President of Marketing, and Kamal Kirpalani as its Vice President for Europe, Middle East, and Africa. Break Launches Hispanic Site
Los Angeles-based Break Media, the online video and content firm headed by Keith Richman, said this morning that it is targeting Hispanic males with a new site, TuVez.com. According to Break, the new site will provide content focused on entertainment, gaming, sports, and culture, all in context of Hispanic males. Break said the new site's premier sponsor is Toyota. CODA Automotive Loses Sales VP
Santa Monica-based CODA Automotive, the maker of electric cars, said late Tuesday evening that its Vice President of Global Sales, Marketing and Distribution, Michael A. Jackson, has resigned. Reason for the departure was not given. CODA said that the firm will transition Jackson's responsibilities to existing team members, and is now looking to find a replacement. Broadcom Acquires Beceem Communications
Irvine-based Broadcom announced today that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Beceem Communications, a developer of 4G wireless semiconductors. Broadcom said it will pay approximately $316M in cash for Beceem. Beceem is a developer of semiconductors for the 4G wireless market, including a platform which supports both LTE and WiMAX 4G networks. Qualcomm Buys iSkoot
San Diego-based Qualcomm Innovation Center, Inc. (QuIC), which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Qualcomm, said today that it has acquired iSkoot Technologies Inc.. iSkoot Technologies includes substantially all of the assets of San Francisco-based iSkoot, a developer of social networking and Skype-compatible voice-over-IP software for mobile phones. Sorenson Media Names COO
San Diego-based Sorenson Media, which develops video encoding and decoding software, said today that it has promoted its Vice President of Marketing and Strategy, Eric Quanstrom, to Chief Operating Officer (COO). Quanstrom joined Sorenson Media in May of 2009, at was previously at SightSpeed. Along with the promotion, Sorenson Media said it has hired a new enterprise sales team.
