Awarepoint Raises $9M
San Diego-based Awarepoint, a developer of enterprise, real-time location systems for the hospital market, has raised $9M in a financing round, the firm has announced. According to Awarepoint, the funding came from Cardinal Partners, Jafco Ventures, and Venrock as well as Silicon Valley Bank. The firm said the new funding brings its total raised to $20M in 2010. GameTrailers.com Launches Motion Gaming Site
Los Angeles-based GameTrailers.com, the online gaming entertainment and news site owned by MTVN, said Monday that it has launched a new site, GT Motion, focused on motion-based gaming on the Nintendo Wii, PlayStation Move and Microsoft Kinect for Xbox 360. GameTrailers said the new site will focus on motion-based gaming reviews, features, and blogs. GameTrailers is a unit of Viacom Inc.'s MTV Networks Entertainment Group, and has offices in Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York.

Independa Joins EvoNexus Incubator
San Diego-based Independa, the developer of technology to help senior citizens live independently longer, has been selected for San Diego's EvoNexus incubator. According to Independa, the acceptance will help the firm accelerate the launch of its products. EvoNexus is the business incubation effort being run by CommNexus, which looks to provide office space, utilities, broadband, mentoring, and other assistance to startups. SpaceX Flight Set For Tueday
Hawthorne-based SpaceX, the commercial rocket firm of Elon Musk, is set to launch a demonstration flight on Tuesday. SpaceX is looking to launch its Dragon space capsule -- its privately developed unmanned cargo delivery capsule for the International Space Station -- from Cape Canaveral sometime tomorrow, a demonstration flight which will bring SpaceX closer to its goal of fulfilling a $1.6 billion resupply contract with NASA for the ISS. BeyondTrust Names Zierick As VP
Carlsbad-based BeyondTrust, a developer of access control and security software, said this morning that it has named Jim Zierick as its Executive Vice President of Product Operations. Zierick was most recently CEO of cloud storage provider Nirvanix, and also served as CEO of Asprya and LogicalApps. BeyondTrust said Zierick will help the firm in aggressively growing and expanding its product. Zierick left Nirvanix in November.

SolarReserve Claims Progress On Power Projects
Santa Monica-based SolarReserve, the developer of utility scale solar power projects, claims today that it is proceeding with purchases of long-lead materials and equipment on its Crescent Dunes and Rice Solar Energy projects. The firm--which is still waiting on Department of Energy (DOE) loan guarantees--said the purchases are ahead of DOE-supported financing and are a "key milestone" in its construction of its power plants. Shoppers Spend $16.8 Billion Online So Far During Holidays
According to numbers released Sunday by Internet traffic and measurement firm comScore, shoppers so far this season have spent $16.8 billion online for the first 33 days of the holiday season. According to comScore, spending has slowed down somewhat since the record breaking, Cyber Monday take of $1.028 billion in e-commerce sales. Disney Hits 100 Million Facebook Fans
Think your company is popular on Facebook? Think again. Burbank-based Walt Disney reported Sunday that it has just surpassed one hundred million fans across its network of Facebook pages. According to Disney, those fans are spread across more than 200 official Disney brands, property, and character pages, which the firm has been creating on Facebook since August of 2009. Disney said it is now seeing more than 5 million new fans per week on its Facebook pages.

j2 Global Buys Canadian Firm
Los Angeles-based j2 Global Communications, which operates electronic messaging and FAX services, said today that it has acquired Protus IP Solutions, a Canadian provider of software-as-a-service communications services. j2 said it paid $213M for Protus, which had approximately $72M in revenues over the 12 month period ended October 31, 2010. Smith Micro Adds LTE Support
Aliso Viejo-based Smith Micro Software, a developer of software for the mobile market, said today that it has expanded support in its QuickLink Mobile software for Long Term Evolution (LTE) and 4G technology. The firm said its connection management software now integrates with LTE technology. Smith Micro sells its software to wireless carriers and original equipment manufacturers.

Qualcomm Adds To Board
San Diego-based Qualcomm said this moring that it has added Dr. Francisco ros to the firm's board of directors. Ros was most recently the Secretary of State (vice minister) of the Government of Spain, responsible for telecommunications in that country. Ros was chairman of Inteco and Cenatic, two public institutions focus on IT. Ros also was a managing director at Qualcomm Spain, and President and CEO of Unisource. He also has been at Telefonica Group.

Conexant Rolls Out Multimedia Processor
Newport Beach-based Conexant said this morning that it has rolled out a new multimedia processor, targeted at interactive display appliances. The firm said the new device is aimed at web terminals, interactive signage, and kiosks, as well as in home automation and touchscreen applications. Conexant said its CX92745 processor is sampling with volume aimed at January of 2011.
