Qualcomm To Buy Atheros, Says Report
San Diego-based Qualcomm is in the midst of a $3.5 billion offer to buy semiconductor maker Atheros Communications, according to the New York Times. The report, citing two people with "direct knowledge of the talks" said the deal is expected to be announced as soon as Wednesday. The deal would be the largest ever acquisition for Qualcomm.

RealD, Samsung Team On 3D Display Technology
Los Angeles-based RealD, the developer of 3D movie projection technology, and consumer electronics giant Samsung said Tuesday that the two have teamed up to jointly develop a new, 3D display technology they are calling RDZ. The two said the new technology will provide high resolution 3D video displays, compatible with RealD's existing 3D eyewear used in movie theaters. LiveTime Software Gets Debt Funding
Newport Beach-based LiveTime Software, a provider of Web 2.0 service desk software, has raised a round of debt funding, according to funding provider Agility Capital. Financial details of the debt funding were not disclosed. According to Agility, LiveTime will use the funding to support its growth. LiveTime provides ITIL service management and help desk software via software-as-a-service.

ShowUhow Links To Social Media Sites
San Diego-based ShowUhow, which develops video-based sales and product information for online retailers and manufacturers, said today that it has added a suite of social media integration features for the firm's offering. Ondax Names Belz To Board
Monrovia-based Ondax, which develops laser products and holographic gratings used in defense, industrial, medical diagnostics, analytical instrumentation, and consumer electronics markets, has added Andrea Belz to its board, the firm said Monday. The firm, which recently completed a $2.0M, Series E funding round from the Pasadena Angels and Tech Coast Angels, said Belz will represent both of those angel groups on its board. SAIL Venture Partners Expands Team
Irvine-based SAIL Venture Partners, the clean technology venture capital firm headed by Walter Schindler, said today that it has added two members of its team. SAIL said it has added Christopher Brown as a Senior Associate in the firm's Orange County office, and Stefan Zylik as Controller out of its New York offices. Ceradyne Buys VIOX
Costa Mesa-based Ceradyne said this morning that it has acquired VIOX Corporation, a specialty glass company located in Seattle, Washington. Ceradyne said it paid approximately $27M in cash plus up to a maximum of $22M in earn out for VIOX. Orange, California-based LogicBuy.com, an online technology deals and coupon site, has been acquired by Ziff Davis, Ziff said this morning. Financial terms of the buy were not disclosed. Ziff Davis said that LogicBuy.com had over 10 million visitors in 2010, and provides deals and coupons on technology products and services. LogicBuy was founded in 2007 by Thai Than.

PriceGrabber Adds Mobile Alerts, Local Searches
Los Angeles-based PriceGrabber, the online comparison shopping site that is owned by Experian, said today that it has added new price alert and localizaiton features on its iPhone and iPad applications. FitOrbit Raises $3.2M
Los Angeles-based FitOrbit, the online site which helps users connect with personal trainers and gain fitness and weight loss advice, has raised $3.2M, according to a regulatory filing from the firm. The company is run by Nick Desai and was co-founded by Jake Steinfeld of Body By Jake. Source of the new funding was not disclosed. Todd Dagres of Spark Capital joins the firm's board as part of the new funding round. FitOrbit has previously raised funding from Ron Conway and Polar Capital.

Qualcomm Gets Design Win In Blood Glucose Meter
San Diego-based Qualcomm said today that the firm's wireless machine-to-machine modules have been designed into a blood glucose meter product from Telcare Incorporated. According to Qualcomm its Internet of Everything Module (IEM) has been designed into Telcare's 3GM blood glucose meter, which transfers blood glucose readings via 3G mobile broadband. Financial impact of the win was not disclosed.

First Advantage Acquired By Symphony Technology Group
Poway-based First Advantage, a provider of employment background screening, occupational health services, recruiting, business tax consulting, and other workforce management services, has been acquired by private equity firm Symphony Technology Group. Financial terms of the buy were not disclosed. According to First Advantage, the company will operate as a portfolio company of Symphony, with CEO Todd Mavis continuing to lead the company.
