EdgeCast Trumpets Customer Gains
Santa Monica-based content delivery network provider EdgeCast Networks said Friday that it now has more than 2000 customers, or more than double the number of customers from the previous year, as of the close of 2010. The firm said those customers include AdColony, Dreamstime, SlashGear, StreamCity, and Tumblr. The firm did not say what that customer count equaled in terms of financial performance. EdgeCast is venture backed by Menlo Ventures and Steamboat Ventures.

Freebinar Looks To Fill Webcasting Hole Left By DimDim
Huntington Beach-based Freebinar, a provider of free, web conferencing services, is looking to fill the new hole left by free web conferencing service Dimdim, with its own ad-supported service. Freebinar told socalTECH today that it is looking to help users of Dimdim, which was just acquired by Salesforce.com and stopped allowing new user signups this week. RayTracker Acquired By First Solar
Pasadena-based RayTracker, a developer of solar tracking technology which is backed by Idealab, has been acquired by solar power module giant First Solar. Financial terms of the acquisition were not announced. First Solar said that RayTracker's entire team will join its Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) group. Fastpoint Games Launches Game With Sony Online
Los Angeles-based Fastpoint Games, the online games development firm headed by Kelly Perdew, said today that it has launched a game developed from a partnership with Sony Online Entertainment. Fastpoint said it has taken Sony's massively multiplayer online game EverQuest II to the Facebook platform with a new title. Hulu Plus Headed To Android, VIZIO HDTVs
Los Angeles-based Hulu said last night that its Hulu Plus service is headed to Android mobile phones, and also to Vizio's HDTV platform. According to Hulu CEO Jason Kilar at CES last yesterday, Hulu is looking to bring Hulu Plus to Android phones running Android OS 2.2 in coming months, on specific Android phones. Local.com Buys Group Buying Site iTwango
Irvine-based Local.com, which operates a network of local search sites, said today that it has acquired iTwango LLC, a developer of a technology platform for the group buying and daily deals space. iTwango was based in Los Angeles. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. According to Local.com, the move puts it into the group buying space, where it intends to launch new products towards the middle of 2011. Phoenix Energy Technologies, a developer of enterprise energy management software and services, said today that it has opened up a new corporate headquarters in Irvine. ADVENTRX Pharmaceuticals Raises $22.5M, Plans Acquisition
San Diego-based ADVENTRX Pharmaceuticals said this morning that it has raised $22.5M in funding, via a registered direct offering to RA Capital Management and other investors. CyberDefender Names Barash COO
Los Angeles-based CyberDefender, the developer of Internet security software, said Thursday afternoon that it has named co-founder Igor Barash as its Chief Operating Officer. Barash was most recently CIO for the firm. In addition, the company said it has eliminated the position of Chief Revenue Officer. The firm said the move would "better streamline" its corporate structure. Barash co-founded CyberDefender with CEO Gary Guseinov.
